It may not be the film soundtrack and therefore be missing at least two nice tracks, but the sound of this particular recording is much better than the one from the movie. I fully recommend it for those who enjoy actually sitting down and listening to great music on a great sounding CD.

Some years ago I purchased "Frank Sinatra: The Capital Years." "Frank Sinatra: A Voice in Time (1939-1952)" is the perfect companion to The Capital Years. Covering his recordings on the Bluebird and Colombia labels, the listener hears a Sinatra quite different from the swinging Sinatra of the 50's. This is the balladeer par excellence. Many recordings include the arrangements of Alex Stordahl which fit in so well with Sinatra's smooth delivery.
The Box Set is comprised of 4 discs entitled "The Big Band Years (1939-1942)," "Teen Idol (1943-1952)," "The Great American Songbook (1943-1947)" and "The Sound of Things to Come (1949-1952). Several of his recordings from from the 1940s feature his backup group, the Pied Pipers with Jo Stafford - a nice ... Read More:

Excellent picture quality, the Blu-ray is outstanding.
Was somewhat dissapointed with the length of the disk, felt somewhat cheated.

I chose Fiddler for my students' spring musical, and always like to get the original cast recording to help give me an idea of the original idea for the pieces in the show. This recording definitely delivers, and the interview with Sheldon Harnick at the end is an extra treat. Awesome CD!

This CD is a must for any person genuinely interested in music from the 1960's. The songs have not aged at all, if anything they sound as great today as when they were they were first released. This is not surprising given that Petula never failed to deliver. Petula's songs have stood the test of time, and this often cannot be said for many singers. There is no doubt that the writing skills of Tony Hatch and his superb orchestra contributed greatly to the success of Petula, but at the end of the day they were a perfect match. Don't miss out on this collection. The Ultimate Petula Clark

I was very disappointed with this purchase. The sound quality is terrible! I had to turn it down during the music sequences and crank it up to hear anyone singing. It sounds like someone put a recorder up next to the TV screen and recorded it while watching the movie.

This play is about pain, loss and most of all, hope for redemption. I was lucky enough to catch a touring cast perform this show locally back in the 90's and was brought to tears by the song "Lily's Eyes" (which is a tough thing to do to an angst-filled teen). Though at the moment you won't catch this show on Broadway or a major tour... if you ever get the opportunity you really should see it.
As far as this CD, and my review of it. This is a very good rendition of the show, it is well mixed and if you have not seen the show you should be able to follow the basics of the story fairly easily. Most of the actors have amazing voices and the songs are performed well. I particularly enjoy the parts of Martha and Dicken. I was not as happy with the Collin on this recording as ... Read More:

I expected to love this album. I love Coltrane. But it's just not gelling. For whatever reason, the album comes across as a jam-session, and not a serious musical production. The balance is uneven and the sound is muted and cloudy. The majority of the album carries no understandable theme or idea. I know it's jazz, and it's supposed to be loose, but this is just frustrating!
Honestly, my favorite part of the album was Tyner's piano playing. He's a genius! I'll be looking into more of him.
