Stop the Clocks

by: Oasis

Release Date November 21, 2006
Does the band have any input in this. My first complaint is each disc only has nine tracks. Why not fill it up? Stop Crying My Heart Out should be on there as well as Do You Know What I Mean? There was at least seven other tracks they could have included. Why release two discs with nine tracks only on them? It makes no sense.

Essential Clash

CD-Charts > Music > British Alternative
by: The Clash

Release Date March 11, 2003
For me The Clash was Combat Rock, the album they released in early 80's (81?) that bring me back to my youth. A couples of years ago I read in every list of the best rock bands ever that The Clash were among the top 20 and London Calling was one of the best 10 albums ever. So I began to look for more music from the group. Discovering this collection and the early recordings of the group. I have to say That I'm impressed. From the early really punk recordings like White Riot, through their evolution to post punk and pop singles like Rock The Casbah, or Should I stay or Should I go, The Clash demonstrate that They were not just THE punk group but wise composers and instrumentalists not mentioning the message of rebellion and anger about the matters ... by: Ride

Release Date December 29, 1990
This is fuzzy goodness that is hard to top. What really works for me is how they use brooding pop melodies without confining themselves to boring pop structure. Anyone can tell each member is musically refined, but they are tasteful to the point of letting listeners know they have good chops but are more concerned with structure, dynamics, and mood. That kind of awareness is very much appreciated. Very highly recommended album.

Isn't Anything

CD-Charts > Music > British Alternative
by: My Bloody Valentine

Release Date June 15, 1993
So I love "Loveless" and so decided to add some more MBV to my collection. And seeing that this album got the same ratings as "Loveless" I went for it - sadly, without listening to the preview clips. Alas, I found this album to be, frankly, an absolute MESS! None of the semi-melodious, invitingly-droning, enveloping, soundscapeness that makes me fond of "Loveless". Very hard to listen to, not very approachable for an average music appreciator. My face was kinda scrunched up in confusion as I tried my best to listen to every track but ended up skip forward through them all within a mere 20 minutes and started wondering how much I'm gonna get for it at the used CD store. Yikes. I ended up getting cold feet on the other 2 MBV cd's I ordered along with ... Read More:

CD-Charts > Music > British Alternative
by: Coldplay

Release Date November 18, 2003
Well, here's Coldplay's first release or you. It is quite enjoyable and has much in common with their first album in way of lyrical themes and overall sound. I find it a bit curious that none of these songs found their way onto CP's first record. They would have been better served and more appreciated there, but just as well. These are very good songs at a very fair price. So enjoy!

Wake

CD-Charts > Music > British Alternative
by: Dead Can Dance

Release Date May 20, 2003
Why I say "Shame on me"? Because I didn't get into this band earlier. I've heard the name Dead Can Dance (DCD) for some years now but didn't pay much attention, thinking it was some dark, morbid music with a spooky name like "Dead Can Dead". I've been a fan of The Cocteau Twins for about 4 years now, I have almost all their albums, then a co-worker of mine told me he hates the The Cocteau Twins and loves DCD instead, and recomended their music. I was surprised he would say that he "hates" the Twins, his main reason he says Liz Fraser "just hollows on about nothing".
Not really true, but eventually I tryed the music clips for DCD: Wake on Amazon and was captured by what I heard so I gave it a shot.

Now I'm a new fan of DCD, thanks to this ... Read More:

by: The Verve

Release Date November 16, 2004
The Verve was a British band of the 1990's who have since broken up. On this CD we have 14 of the best Verve songs from their era of existence 1992-98. I really like this album and am awarding it 4.5 stars. I first heard of this band in June 1997 when staying in London, when their justly-famous and classic song Bittersweet Symphony made the UK top 5 . Even better was the achingly-beautiful yet despairing lament The Drugs Don't Work, which reached #1 on the UK chart in September 1997. I was working as a locum doctor in a psychiatric clinic at the time in Birmingham, England, and could really relate to the heartfelt pain that this song evokes, yet it has one of the most beautiful of melodies. Third song Lucky Man was also fantastic, as was the fourth song: Sonnet. All ... Read More:

CD-Charts > Music > British Alternative
starring: Radiohead

Release Date September 09, 2008
First, let me qualify this review by saying I am NOT a hardcore Radiohead fan, at least not a fan of their more recent albums, which I have found to be somewhat overrated due to lack of conventional songs, and I'm not a big fan of atonal music/beeps and farts noise. I do have all their albums, more out of curiosity that I am `missing' something groundbreaking that everyone else except me seems to be hearing. However, I do think that The Bends and OK Computer are two exceptional albums, easily among the finest albums of the 90's. They are unquestionably an interesting band, and like them or not, anyone would have to admit they make challenging music, which is more than you can say for 97% of bands today. So there.

That said, I got this DVD because I was (again) ... Read More:

Heathen Chemistry

CD-Charts > Music > British Alternative
by: Oasis

Release Date July 02, 2002
Some bands can reach a status where their next record has almost an aura that surrounds it as if it's an "event"; one of the biggest bands ever has new material that is about to hit stores. Even if the albums don't light the world on fire or they are just simply underrated gems that didn't sell well, their next one still is on many's anticipated list. Oasis for al their faults and criticisms are a similar band and after the misfire/underrated "Standing on the Shoulders of Giants" which had some listenable songs next to just simply decent, "Heathen Chemistry", their 5th not counting their b-sides collection "The Masterplan", the band shows some topform songwriting which hurts when its against some poor numbers as well.

CD-Charts > Music > British Alternative
by: Joe Jackson

Release Date August 14, 2001
If ever there was such a thing as a rock n roll chameleon, Joe Jackson would be it. Over the years he has done albums that encompassed punk, new wave, pop, jazz, swing, album oriented rock, and even progressive rock. On this his first album Jackson burst on to the scene mainly appealing to the punk and new wave crowd, but unlike most artists of this ilk, Jackson could actually play the hell out a piano and wrote lyrics that were both biting and incredibly intelligent. Joe's debut would rocket him to stardom with the smash hit single "Is She Really Going Out With Him" and three other lesser hits "One More Time", "Sunday Papers" and "Got The Time". Joe's lyrics are cerebral, cynical and at time hilarious as he portrays the angst of a 20 something trying to fit in with the new wave 80's culture. ... Read More:
