Dross. My copy had a ten minute life - went into the garbage when I got to the fourth (it felt like fortieth) track. Its all shout, shout, shout, boring , boring. I like angry music, but there has to be some skill and subtlety, not just "I'm angry". The people who like this CD will use the "kickass" defence, meaning it's great because the lead singer is sweating when he's singing this garbage. As for the socio-political message of this record, I was a teenager in Thatcher's Britain and living in a poor housing estate but even I can't get anything out of this. I hate the "Oy I'm a cockney (meaning I'm from London)guy" style the lead singer has. It's what all Britains most one dimensional punk bands (UK subs or Sham 69 or all that Oi! stuff ... Read More:

I'd heard great things about this band, and they were always lumped together with New Order as being one of the great groups to hang around The Hacienda club. They were also tied to the Stone Roses when it came to that whole Madchester fad. Naturally, I had great expectations for them. I bought the CD for a buck, ripped the it and tuned in. The first track, "Kinky Afro" didn't really do it for me. Was this band all hype? Guess what, they weren't! "God's Cop" came on and suddenly, we've got a nice effects-pedal driven guitar and some really nice dance beats going along with it. Who the heck cares about what the vocals are talking about. I don't even see the relationship between them and the title. All I know is that the music is great. And this ... Read More:

We Yanks may have invented rock & roll, but the Brits have taken it to truly astonishing places. Elbow, like many other English bands, creates beautifully atmospheric songs with clever hooks, walls of sound and sparse arrangements, all the while doing so with such poise and sincerity. Guy Garvey's throaty, effortless vocals and visual lyrics add a depth to which other bands of comparable musical aplomb can only aspire.
I've only recently stumpled upon Elbow, but am endlessly glad I have. Elbow, honestly, is what Catherine Wheel could have been without the over-the-top production. Elbow really are one of the best finds for me in the last year or so and are finding daily play at work, at home or on walks with the iPod.

I bought the UK release prior to Yep Rock release in the US; same mastering and similar packaging. Soooo, what's to say? Top-notch remastering, B-side and demo bonus tracks up the wazoo, well written booklet with great photos... this is the one to get! Too bad Yep Rock didn't see fit to release the previously done UK deluxe version of Stanley Road (equally well done) as well.

I wasn't able to preview the music on this CD, or I probably wouldn't have bought it. Every song begins the same way and ends the same way. The percussion and layers of music are also very similar. It's obviously for listeners who are looking for something mindless. But it bored me so much I gave it away.

Review no. 64. Hard to believe but every song on this sixteen track collection are Buzzcocks singles put out between 1977-79. Never realized they even ever had out THAT many in their entire career. The '70's punk outfit still exists to this very day - with two original members, guitarist / vocalist Pete Shelley and guitarist / second lead vocalist Steve Diggle. Some of the tunes here I seem to remember the most are "Orgasm Addict", "Love You More" the Steve Diggle-penned "Harmony In My Head" and "Noise Annoys". A should-have.

Had the misfortune to see this pathetic group of rockstar wannabees live at an all day event years ago. Spacehog headlined on the strength of that mediocre hit single but were easily the worst band of the day!!! Oh yeah, this album reeks also!!!

While I love listening to Jarvis Cocker sing, I can't say this is the best thing I've ever heard from him. I do think it is an improvement from the last of the pulp albums that came out, but there is still room for improvement.

Gomez are a unique combination of jam band and britpop - retaining all the integrity of the first with the catchiness of the second
1. Get Miles - great track but just an opener really.
2. Whippin' Piccadily - very catchy hummable song with great lyrics about getting the train at London's busiest line
3. Make no sound - a very pretty song with a slightly dark tone, very nicely played spartan acoustic guitar
4. 78 stone wobble - excellent song
5. Tijuana Lady - very beautiful song, despite the silly lyrics, which seem to be written by a British band that has very little idea about Mexico - the kind of allusions that someone British would make sombrero / poncho / El Mariachi / Desperado
6. Here Comes The Breeze - good song if one of ... Read More:
