Picked this CD out of the rack after not listening to it for years.

Los Lobos' Bertha interpretation is close to the original, but with a nice hint of accordion. Bruce Hornsby's Jack Straw is great, one can tell he played with the Dead many a time and I (for one ;-) think that he performed wonderfully with them over the years. Whatever you think of him, he can play piano.

Forget The Hashed Mellows' US Blues, what a disappointing straightforward rock-ish version that is. Elvis Costello's Ship of Fools is sort of interesting in the sense that he has some of Jerry's raspiness and I like the instrumentation.

Suzanne Vega's China Doll sounds like, well, a Vega tune, which isn't bad, but perhaps a bit dull. ... Read More:

There are a number of bands I'm embarrassed to admit that I listened to in my youth. Chumbawamba isn't one of them. With their anarchic pop-punk and their witty lyrics attacking the Tories of their native England, Chumbawamba took social commentary to a new level. Utilizing catchy pop tunes they made their commercial breakthrough with their 1997 album, Tubthumper, which not only brought them mainstream recognition but also international stardom (ironically these were the last things that they intended).

i have been a kate bush fanatic since 83 so i dont know why it took me so long to get this cd. it must have been because i didnt have AMAZON.COM when i was amassing my cd collection. or i thought that the classics WUTHERING HEIGHTS and THE MAN WITH THE CHILD IN HIS EYES were enough for me on her compilation cd. but no, i was very wrong. and i am so very happy to have this. one of her most accomplished collections(a lot of her albums are not every song friendly) and for it being her very first at such a young age. oh my! i love it. i love her. only quibble- when are her cd's gonna get the remastered treatment?

Oasis have been around for 14+ years now, but by far their best stuff was released between 1994 and 1996, the double-shot genius of "definitely maybe" and "morning glory", plus all the great b-sides in between. IMO, at that time comparisons with the Beatles were well-earned: No act since the Fab Four had released so many good songs in so short a period of time.

Thus, this DVD, recorded in 1996, captures the band at their absolute commercial and artistic peak. All the great songs from the first two records are here, and the Dolby Digital 5.1 surround sound is perfect.

No rock and roll fan should be without this.

People who are after a one album purchase will prefer the US version. It includes a number of other hits that were circulating around that time and leaves off some of the weaker numbers off the UK album. I'm sure purists or completists will not agree with me on this point. To me, this album is punk (along with London Calling). This album belongs in an era which will never, can never come again. It is a product of its time but has aged extremely well.

The songs which are on this version but not on the UK version are all strong, and were either singles, B-sides, or rerecorded later - Clash City Rockers, Complete Control, White Man in Hammersmith Palais, Jail Guitar Doors, and the cover of "I fought the Law". This was a great find - it takes me back to those angst filled teenage years. As a major Joy Division fan, I was thrilled to get this CD and get a feel for their evolution as a band. Get New Order - 316 if you want to hear an early New Order still sounding like Joy Division.
