If you like Nancy Wilson, Opie Bellas and Pink Martini; then Astrud is for you. My Brazillian friends introduced me to this artist. her voice is like melted butter. Highly recommended!
Release Date October 04, 1989
I have many many Stan Getz cds. I treasure this box set since 1990 I guess the year that I bought it. I know it by memory now, but nevertheless it always sounds fresh and superb. The quality of the music contained here can't be underestimated maybe only because it had success (something that jazz purist often do, critizise a music only because it sold big numbers). This music is something that words can't do justice. The encounter between Stan Getz and bossa nova and its artists was made in Heaven. Here superlatives are not enough believe us (believe to me and to all the other enthusiastic reviewers). It's a music so beautiful, so perfect that it flows with a divine smoothness. This music seems easy to uneducated people and they may even appreciate ... Read More:

One of the most beautiful cd's of all time(originally an LP). This album is gorgeous, romantic, and bailable. If you like Brasilian jazz, this is the best, and Byrd is the most skillful bossa nova guitarist. Also Byrd is responisble for bringing the Bossa Nova sound to the USA and turning into jazz con Stan Getz. A great album for the jazz fan who already owns Jazz Samba and wants to discover more great jazz bossa nova.
Release Date November 12, 2002
I really enjoy listening to this mix of smooth Bosa Nova music. Each track has its own connection to Brazil with Bebel Gilberto as a super boost. If your new to Bossa Nova start with Tom Jobim but if your looking for j-pop sound start here. As my friends in Rio would say this CD is "legal".

What we have here is a masterpiece of mood. That silky, late night mood that gives birth to all kinds of romantic thoughts--some wistful, some satisfying, some unbearably sad, lonely or even hopeful. Verve has done an incredible job of selecting a wide range of performers, songs, and time periods and succeed in making this an indispensible jazz collection. Dinah Washington's acapella notes at the beginning of the "i'll Close My Eyes" is a perfect curtain-raiser; Stephane Grapelli's short, melancholy "Souvenir de Villagen" is a perfect closing theme. Some true standouts in a collection of them: Oscar Peterson giving one of the most tender piano solos in his career on "I Loves You, Porgy," and a haunting, smokey "My Funny Valentine" ... Read More:

Jane Monheit has one of the greatest voices of our time. She was schooled in music theory, among other things, at the renowned Manhattan School of Music. Under the guidance of eminent vocal instructor Peter Eldridge she has achieved total command of the brilliant instrument that is her voice. Through many ranges and moods she will take you on a musical journey that will make you appreciate our good fortune in being able to enjoy the delight of hearing great music done well. The accomplished musicians who accompany her are some of the best in the business and it shows not only in their ability to 'Bring It', but in the way that they support Jane and let her 'Fly'. The music Bill played in the sessions that produced this album is really modal. Almost all the tunes are modal vamp based on one chord orchestrated with the common Frisell extravaganza. This should not sound as a critic but on the opposite as a compliment to Bill's music. Infact the album is really a joy to listen, it has a strange amalgama of instruments and the music is in the end ipnotic and always interesting. I really really like the album but at the same time I can't find all this genius in Bill's work at least in the case of albums like this one. He is of course an extremely talented musician with a style of his own, very recognizable. He displayed his style all over a vast array of albums in which he still showed a lot of ideas. Nevertheless I can't talk about genius in the case of ... Read More:

.....and still do. This is a remake of an LP from back in '64....very early Astrud. There's always been a certain charm about her...maybe a "little girl" quality...hard to define. The story is that she only got onto the legendary Getz/Gilberto album in the first place because she could sing in English. Not sure if this was her first solo effort...
This is an album of pop music of the day, English and Portugese...probably the best known cuts would be the title song, "Fly Me To The Moon", and "Who Can I Turn To". One can say that Astrud has an accent, BUT, one can understand every word, which is more than can be said for some who grew up speaking English.
As I said, this is a reissue of an LP...and there's the one drawback; oh, the sound is fantastic, as we expect from ... Read More:
