This is my first Jeff Healey CD, so I can't say if its really "the best" of JH, but it's all good. I think covers of Badge, Yer Blues, and especailly While my Guitar Gently Weeps are excellent. The other covers and original works are very good. I play a little guitar and can appreciate his style. I guess I'll have to buy some other albums to see if other reviewers are right about others being better. But don't hesitate to buy this one.

They key difference between this single CD hits collection and the earlier "My Blue Heaven" is that this one uses the sped-up versions as originally released. "My Blue Heaven" and the ACE singles compilations present the songs restored to correct pitch as performed but not released. For those that grew up with the Fat Man this CD has the familiar pitch.

Simply 'the best' for the voodoo of truely great Harmonica boogie improvisation. Alan Wilsons [pre-suicide] respect and harmonica 'call & response' to John Lees creative outpourings are like nothing else before or since. What a session. This record is a highly influencial album in my life and stands as a great example of 'electric Harmonica' tone and technique. I would give my 'coolies' for Al's amplifier and wonderful style. Meanwhile The whole band sounds very excited and committed to honoring their session with the legendary boogieman. What more to say? The tunes are often long improvised 'jams', spread with 'solo' loose tunes with John Lee Hooker, his words, guitar and ever tapping foot. This historical recording is not everybodys 'cup of tea' but if ... Read More:

We just had the pleasure to see Curtis 3 days ago (my 9th time, my husbands 6th time) and we were delighted to see him looking so good and sounding so fabulous! We bought "Clean Getaway" directly from Curtis and he, as usual, autographed it for us, we've been listening to it solid since Saturday. An excellent production, and as Curtis told his audience the other night, there was no sound booth, just honest cuts, no headphones, and very few overdubs. That's why it sounds so honest! Curtis is a legend, and I'm loving that we've been here for so long before everyone else figures him out. I agree with another reviewer, "Who's lovin' you" could easily be a huge hit. "Let's get married" is absolutely awesome too. I told Curtis the other night, "You make the world just alittle ... Read More:

Mississippi John Hurt recorded only 13 songs before returning to a life of obscurity and hard work on a farm. Of these 13 songs recorded in 1928, 11 were penned by John Hurt with the other two being traditional spiritual numbers ("Blessed be the name" and "Praying on the old camp ground"). The recording quality of these Okeh recordings is simply fantastic, and have the best recording quality I have heard from this era. A little hiss is heard (very little) and not much else.
As to the recordings themselves, they are probably the sweetest sounding, most mellifluous early delta/country blues I have ever heard. John Hurt may not have had the well-known name of a Robert Johnson or Son House, but these recordings have had their influence in their own way. The song Stack O' Lee ... Read More:

I have a few zydeco CD's, and this one is far and away my favorite. Hardly a song in the bunch that I can't enjoy again and again.
If you are familiar with zydeco music, you can read Amazon's song list above and there's no need for me to rehash it. If you're not familiar, then no need for a song by song description either, but I'll simply describe zydeco as "happy music" (there are blues tunes in the mix) with cajun roots in the rural Louisiana swamplands. It's from the heart and has a definite rock flavor. (It is not brassy New Orleans rhythem and blues).
This collection is the cream of the crop. If you've got a rock 'n roll heart, you need to check this out. Make your first listen on good equipment with the volume turned up a little and you'll be hooked.
