The sound on this is very anemic. The bass is almost non-existent. I've read this in other reviews but I had to see for myself since I love this album. It's true. Stick with the regular CD. Later Edit: I've decided it's not as bad as I first thought. What I said previously still applies but you won't be wasting your money on this.

There are seminal moments in the arts when circumstances bring giants together in perfect alignment, and this album is one of them. The cast could never be better than the one contained herein, with the huge blues voice of Muddy Waters leading the way, half-brother Otis Spann pounding out some of his most brilliant piano ever, Paul Butterfield blowing his harp as if nations rise or fall by his effort, Mike Bloomfield (not long for this world after this 1969 recording) spinning out black blues guitar licks in a faithful but trailblazing fashion, plus a killer rhythm section of Stax/Volt's Donald "Duck" Dunn and Muddy's own Sam Lay on drums.
The songs are Muddy classics, from the thundering "40 Days And 40 Nights" to the braggadocio of "I'm ... Read More:

Man.
Between Mavis Staples's new Ry Cooder produced album and this new piece of awe-inspiring artistry from Otis Taylor and friends, I'm just not sure which album lands in my top spot for the past year. But it has been an amazing year for Roots Music.
Buy this. You won't regret it. Even if you aren't a Banjo Fan (and didn't grow up in a little town that had yearly Banjo and Fiddler's contests, like I did,)...you'll love this album. Even if you aren't aware of THE OTIS TAYLOR and the fact that he left music for 20 years only to come back and make my idiot self cry with joy and sadness over his content on the first album back. Buy this disc.
Even if you aren't sure you could enjoy a Blues album? Buy it.

After leaving the Doobie Brothers, Michael McDonald put together some of his pre- Steely Dan work and issued them on THAT WAS THEN THE EARLY YEARS (which has sadly never made it to CD as of now) But he knew where he was going with this smooth collection of great hits. The highlights are "I Keep Forgettin' (Every Time You're Near" the big hit from the album, the Kenny Loggins-penned "I Gotta Try" with Loggins himself on background vocals (he would go on do his own version later that year on his High Adventure album.
"I Can Let Go Now" is an overlooked gem perhaps someone like his wife Amy Holland could have sung. Accompianed only by Mike on piano, it has been covered by everyone from Dionne Warwick to Alison Krauss to Colin Raye. This leads into "That's Why" featuring Christopher ... Read More:

From opening track to the final note, this cd is fantastic! I have to say that this cd has spent the most time in my cd player over the past several years than any other. That tells you it is one that you can listen to over and over. Sonny gets an amazing tone on his guitar. He is a true innovator on slide guitar using technique that is new to slide players. A Natural World is a great tune, and A World Away is great blues. If you do not have any Sonny Landreth in your cd collection, get this one. You will not be dissapointed. But a warning, after a few listens, you will want his entire collection!
