To not go track by track describing the genius of each track is going to be a challenge as every song here is worth outstanding merit. Before Bluesbreakers who knew Brits had so much soul, I know I didn't. But the music heard and played here is beyond comparison and beyond inspired. The heartfelt playing from Clapton would never be matched again, Layla And Other Assorted Love Songs came mighty close but still falters in comparison to this. Mayall alone was a powerhouse already but teamed with the great Clapton and they were unstoppable.

In addition to all the great things the other reviewers have to say about the disc, I'll add that the sound quality is excellent too. For whatever reason, this band's albums have been overlooked by Capitol. If you want one of their studio albums on CD, you have overpriced poor sounding imports made by budget reissue companies to choose from - not a good situation. It's obvious from this compilation, that Capital has access to some first generation tapes. Let's just hope that someday they'll properly reissue them with the dignity this band's catalog deserves.

I preordered this CD. I just listen to it for the second time. This is satire at it's most boring. Don't bother with this CD. Ry has done much more interesting stuff, both lyrically and musically. Listen to the samples before you buy. I wish I did. If you like what you hear ignore this and go with your own tastes but for me "yuck!"

This is an outstanding release--the subject is Maxwell St. Chicago,a legendary marketplace and breeding ground for some of the finest blues music ever made--and as could be expected some fairly eccentric characters emerged.
The DVD consists of two b/w films,And This Is Free and Maxwell Street;A Living Memory--both are excellent and include some fine music from the street, including Robert Nighthawk. An excellent 36page booklet include many great photos and information, plus a 17track CD of blues that you could have heard back in the day.Plus some excellent extras which all add up to a great record of a place in time that sadly is now gone but not forgotten thanks to this release.

I usually don't write reviews for albums, but I had let the world know how I feel about Conya Doss. She is the kind of artist that I can buy a CD from without even listening to it. It's amazing what can happen when an artist is allowed to do an album their way. There really isn't a bad track on "Still..." Some tracks just speak to me on a deeper level than others. One of my favorite tracks is "Can't Stop" That one has been on repeat forever in my Ipod. It sums up perfectly what Conya Doss is doing for us: she's giving us all the love she's got. I just wish that she just keeps getting better and better.

There are some truly haunting performances here, and some funny ones, and some of everything, really. This stuff is so far deeper and weirder and spookier than any folk I've ever heard. It's the motherlode; Harry Smith wandered around and got these recordings before radio started, and thus we get true folk music, passed down the generations and from that area, or from the motherland of the musicians, with the spirit of the New World.
The vibes are palpable, varied, and intense. Lots of "mistakes", but so much feeling that missed notes only add to the experience.
If you've ever liked any folk music at all, whether Leadbelly, the Seegers, the Carter family, early Dylan, or if you need to know where real country music comes from, this is your collection. ... Read More:

Personally, I think they could have made a way better greatest hits album than this for D'. But if they were to make the perfect D'angelo greatest hits album it would probably have to be 2 discs. But the thing that really makes me happy about this release is that they added six extra songs that were not on his previous two albums, Voodoo, and Brown Sugar. Thats the main reason i bought this album, i wanted some new D'Angelo music to listen to, as alot of people do with his eight year hiatus. Now, the six songs that werent on his previous albums, have been released before, but most of them were on no name sountracks, therefore making the songs pretty much unheard of. But the biggest plus of all you get from this album, is that i believe that the record label put this collection out ... Read More:
