One of the first times I heard this album was blaring out of a crappy boombox in the middle of a moist, humid Thai market hawking bootleg tapes. Even with the cassette distortion, the beats hit hard and the synth-guitar riffs (most noticeable on tracks like "Voodoo People") slammed through the blurry aural walls of bartering chatter.
It's funny how music gets tied to memories, but later in Canada, when I danced to this with friends in high school, the scene from Thailand kept coming back in all its gritty, grimy glory -- how fitting!
Prodigy's always had a strong suit when it comes to catchy riffs, and classics like "Poison" drive the point home. At points, smoother melodies and wailing vocal samples coalesce with jagged ... Read More:

Well, at least now I know what he was saying! I'd first heard that song years ago when it got some radio play, and could not for the life of me figure out what Mr. Singh was talking about. Then, I heard it again recently on XM, I think it was channel 75 and the title and name of the group finally got to me.
Frank Sinatra used to say if you've got one song that everyone loves and wants to hear, you've got yourself a career. Well, Cornershop has moved on with other recordings and I daresay they've got one. "Brimful of Asha" is an irresistable pop hook, two guitar chords and the sampling work somehow add up to a good song. Asha for those who don't know if apparently Singh's muse, a Bollywood actress (who may be the woman on the cover, ... Read More:

This is Fatboy Slim's first american debut, before he made it big. It's a good solid techo/dance album and can make anybody move around at your next party. It's full of samples and funky beats.

If you like Orlando style break beats, this is the CD you've been craving. This high energy compilation mixed by Florida's "Bass Queen" made me want to jump out of my seat & start dancing. It's got the drum & bass feel only a central Florida Dj can deliver. Words can't explain how I felt after listening to this. It's like having an ear gasm!

Reading all these reviews, you've got a whole buncha people bashing on this CD because it's a dance album. Well, to all you that don't know Norman Cook, AKA Fatboy Slim is in fact a dance artist who produces dance music, don't go into this album expecting anything different. Mr. Cook is a genious and his singles time & time again are proven not only to be sucessful, but also timeless(aside from the tracks that the top 40 radio DJs get ahold of and cram down our throats a zillion times until we never wanna hear 'em again... Thanks for that by the way, you're doing the world a great service). As far as not understanding "Star 69",; what is there to understand. "Star 69" was made for one reason & one reason only, to make you shake your butt. If you're looking ... Read More:

The Prodigy were a great singles band and the proof is in this compilation which contains basically everything a casual fan would want. I have to take a star off though for a couple of reasons. First, the non-inclusion of "Fire" and "Baby's Got A Temper" is a shame and secondly, the version of "Poison" on here must be a single mix or something because it's not the version I remembered from Music For The Jilted Generation (the intro isn't as good).
Overall a good compilation and a good substitute for their albums, which can be a bit tiring at times if you're not a fan of the genre generally.

i just recently got into electro but i found this album to be pretty good. i am not a hardcore jxl fan so i don't have much nostalgia about his previous albums. to be fair, it is not the most interesting electro that i've heard but i gave it five stars because i really believe it deservees a higher rating. i personally enjoy the "obnoxious" tunes and also the lo-fi synth parts because i love the grungy, buzzy, hip-hoppy electro. and that is exactly what this is. also, this seems to be a very danceable album. i liked it.

I'm a club dj myself and i still love listening to this set years later. It's great for a drive and just to listen to a master spin it it reminds me of the uberrare Moby's Everything Is Wrong remixes Mixed cd set by Evil Ninja Moby. Just kick back and listen to this one if not for it being a brilliant mashup.

The Chemical Brother's masterwork, Come With Us, deserves the Nobel Prize if only one were given for useful contemporary popular music. CWU is a CONCEPT album about GENETIC ENLIGHTENMENT. Getting the subtext and understanding how the tracks cohere requires that it be understood as a companion piece to the work of Zecharia Sitchin, particularly THE 12TH PLANET. CWU is one of the seminal cultural creations of the early 21st century, the "Rite of Spring" of our time
