Divided between electronica's flashier artists, SSX 3's soundtrack is as hip and exciting as the game itself, excluding the alternative tracks that are mediocre. The excellent "Poor Leno" makes its umpteenth appearance on a compilation (and its trippy video is on the DVD) and the Chemical Brothers' "Leave Home" was already on the Wipeout XL soundtrack, but the rest of the selections are inspired and stimulating. The Audio Bullys' "We Don't Care" has a hook that won't quit, and K-Os' "Freeze" is both funky and cerebral. The definite highlight is the electro-robotic "Like This," one of the best tracks ever from the turntable crew the X-Ecutioners. As far as remixes, Jason Nevins does his usual mainstream pumping up for "Rock Star," while Paul ... Read More:

Spectacular disc! So many great songs. A perfect blend of 60's Motown and Groovin 70's dance music. The best songs would be Psychedelic Girl, The Catwalk, and Enough. The music is much easier to digest lyrically than Beck's "Midnight Vultures". Mike Myers needs to make another Austin Powers movie so he can use this whole disc on the soundtrack.

After listening to their sensual sitar dance number called "On the ropes" on the soundtrack of Get Carter (that insipid Sylvester movie on which some of the best music of that year was squandered), I had some high hopes from this deep house duo from Manchester. Dancehall Places will get you by the tweezers.
This is their second album I believe, and its packed with a something-for-everyone blend of techno blues, newage ambient disco, and overtones of ska/deephouse. "Blue Song" seems inspired by the electronica rave of Orbital or Moby, in contrast to the somewhat smoky title track that is devoid of all dance influence, while "Show Me" has a world music ring to it. Amazing range.

Wow, I can't believe how cheap this CD is going for, I'm almost going to buy a whole lot of them and give them out. Here I am, near ten years after it's release date and I still say this is an absolutely insane mix. Rennie Pilgrem's remix of the EZ Rollers is my fav on the CD. Chosen Few, an awesome track from Andren & Scott Free AKA Neosoul, is classic (I also have the wax) and Something Unreal ends this journey on an uplifting mindblower. Spend the $3 for this collection of breaks that will have you shaking your booty all day and all night! WE ARE THE CHOSEN FEW!!!

I could have created a "Mantra Mix" compilation of my own from my existing knowledge of the electronic/trance/ambient genres. I own several of the albums of the artists on this featured compilation and creating a compilation for driving, reading, or a lounging around the house would be simple. In doing so, however, I would only stick to music that is familiar and not expand my musical aptitude.
Had I not purchased this compilation, the calypso beats of the Sacred Sound System, the rhythm of Madonna's "Shanti/Ashtangi", and the hip Chemical Brothers' "One Too Many Mornings" would have passed me by. Sinead O'Connor, Peter Gabriel, Travis, and David Byrne add their finesse to make this album complete. My musical knowledge has increased in breadth ... Read More:
