What an experience!!! I finally got this CD yesterday. I'm speechless. I couldn't stop listening to it. The "Funeral Dirge" (Track 12) brought tears to my eyes. I'll buy at least a dozen copies for friends.

One test of an album is, how many times do I want to listen to it? I listened to this one five times before I took a break. That's a lot for me. Usually I'm relieved to get through a new album so I can go back to something I really like. I switched to The Brian Blade Fellowship's Season of Changes for comparison, but I couldn't get through it before I had to go back to Invisible Cinema for another listen. There are at least four things that make this album so satisfying to me. First, there is the physical quality of the playing. Aaron Parks and Mike Moreno both have a beautiful touch, delicate, precise, and supremely confident. Second, there's a lot of variety on this album. In different places it reminds of Brad Mehldau, The Bad Plus, ... Read More:

I bought this CD because of all the rave reviews I read about it. The other people must have been a bit more earthy-crunchy than I am. I found all the wind instruments a bit boring. I think I like to hear a little more piano or something... I love the baby Mozart CD but I thought my baby needed a change every once in a while. Thats why I bought this one. It's ok....

There is a reason musicians are lining up for the opportunity to play with Los Guachos and Guillermo Klein in particular. Crisp, refreshing like a cold summer wheat beer on a hot day.

CD by Pat Metheney
I liked every composition on the first listen. The pieces evoke so much emotion in me. The added vocals and orchestration make this CD unique among my Metheney collection. It's a must listen if you are a fan of his music.

By making this album available at such a special price, Amazon got me to listen to a new group with a great historical reputation. Now I'll be looking for more classic jazz. I got hooked.

I recently bought this recording because as I was looking through my copy of The Real Book: Sixth Edition to find some new songs to learn, I began to notice how many of the songs were written by Wayne Shorter. (It's a lot.) But since I didn't own any Wayne Shorter recordings, and there is so much of his work to choose from, I didn't know where to start. I started with this CD because it is part of the core collection of the The Penguin Guide to Jazz Recordings: Eighth Edition (Penguin Guide to Jazz Recordings). And what do you know, no less than four of the songs from this CD are in the Real Book. Although this recording is starting to get up in age, recorded in 1964, its sound is very fresh. The remastering by Rudy Van Gelder keeps everything clear and concise. ... Read More:

I expected to love this album. I love Coltrane. But it's just not gelling. For whatever reason, the album comes across as a jam-session, and not a serious musical production. The balance is uneven and the sound is muted and cloudy. The majority of the album carries no understandable theme or idea. I know it's jazz, and it's supposed to be loose, but this is just frustrating!
Honestly, my favorite part of the album was Tyner's piano playing. He's a genius! I'll be looking into more of him.
Release Date March 12, 1996
Prior to this album, Diana Krall was not considered serious enough as a Jazz singer who could play a mean piano roll. She was a pretty girl, with a pretty voice, who would do standard jazz covers.
But this album changed all that, the trio in this record is brilliant and Diana's talent as a vocalist AND a piano player is showcased here in great abundance. It was good for her to choose a tribute album to Nat King Cole, and it results in a very good record and nice interpretations of Nat Cole's classics. It was difficult without a drummer as well
I don't have a large collection (50 to 60 CDs ), but this is one cd that i listened to so many items, i scratched it till it could not be played anymore.
For me the standout tracks are pretty much all ... Read More:

I have to say I'm really surprised that nobody else has complained about this but I felt the camera cuts were OBNOXIOUSLY frequent to the point that I honestly can't watch the dvd. It sounds ridiculous but I actually recorded the audio into my computer so I can just listen to the concert. The camera cuts to a different performer an average of once every bar through the entire concert and it is common as the intensity picks up for the camera to cut as frequently as every beat. We have to be talking thousands of cuts over the length of the performance. Do we need this? I think the average jazz fan has a longer attention span than most; why do producers always feel the need to "inject" excitement into live music dvd's when the good performers (like these guys) can do that themselves? ...
