I have almost ALL Keith Jarret solo CDs, and this is my favorite.
Maybe I am biased since it was my first Keith Jarret CD back in high school (wow that was LONG ago), but still it is beautiful.
Release Date April 28, 1998
this is a good cd,but it's a little to quiet for my taste.there are great standards on here, that wynton marsalis plays very well, but i am a little turned off by the syrupy string arrangements on here.this is one of those cd's you can listen to in those quiet times, when your lying in bed, before going to sleep,or,on a rainy day.although there are some fine things on this cd,it's a little to slow, and a little bland for my taste.but still a good cd,nonetheless.

Kenny Barron established a personal landmark as sax player. He was not so sober like Coltrane but in many works, he explored with major amplitude the most diverse ranges of the musical shape, with original sonorities and enraptured mood. And this album with Charlie Haden is a winner.

Picked this CD out of the rack after not listening to it for years.
Los Lobos' Bertha interpretation is close to the original, but with a nice hint of accordion. Bruce Hornsby's Jack Straw is great, one can tell he played with the Dead many a time and I (for one ;-) think that he performed wonderfully with them over the years. Whatever you think of him, he can play piano.
Forget The Hashed Mellows' US Blues, what a disappointing straightforward rock-ish version that is. Elvis Costello's Ship of Fools is sort of interesting in the sense that he has some of Jerry's raspiness and I like the instrumentation.
Suzanne Vega's China Doll sounds like, well, a Vega tune, which isn't bad, but perhaps a bit dull. Happily ... Read More:

I have been searching for this album for 5 years. 5 years ago, I was on Semester at Sea and was spending one of the many long nights at sea (between ports) exchanging music with friends. My friend from Japan gave me several of her favorite Bossa Nova cds, most of them compilations. Of course we didnt have any internet so all the albums that i ripped to my pc said " various artists, track 1 ect.." Well one compilation which is one of my favorites to this day contatined my favorite that I now know is from this album "Saudade Vem Correndo" Wow Maria Toledo's vocals are so... indescribably saudade.
If anyone knows where I can find more Maria Toledo please let me know. For others who want to hear the other songs on the mystery compilation ... Read More:

There is an internet clip of Monk playing "Straight, No Chaser" at a concert. Playing with both hands, that is. At some point, he needs to play the keys to his extreme right. Rather than shift his hands over to his right side to compensate, HE REACHES ACROSS WITH HIS LEFT HAND OVER HIS RIGHT HAND and continues to play without missing a beat! Someone remarked that this is very, very hard to do. I guess it has to do with how the mind works. Try reaching over with your left foot on the gas while driving in rush hour traffic, and you get the point. Remember he is at a concert, where mistakes could be magnified. That is the best analogy I can come with.
Why do I say this? He was so unusual, yet so talented. Monk is pure genius. And you can't teach genius. ... Read More:

This was the first jazz album I ever bought. It was 1962 and I was thirteen years old. I must have driven my parents crazy as I listened to it hundreds of times. With Unit Seven, Cannonball inspired me to take up the saxophone. With Never Will I Marry, Nancy Wilson got my heart racing. Forty-five years later, I'm still listening to my all-time favorite jazz album on CD.
Release Date February 27, 2007
I had a vinyl copy of this during my high school days. I got to see him live in college and he rocked the place. This album is why is he called "The Lip". It is a solid album and in my opinion his best. The high loud and brassy trumpets will give you chills. I have just about every album Maynard has ever done. The "Hey Jude" cut is a classic. When he did it live with his whole trumpet section around him the place went wild. Growing up we always wanted to be able to play like him. I was in jazz band my 4 years in college and he was the standard to which we aspired. We used this album to psych ourselves up for football games. If all of my albums had to be taken from me except one this would be the one I would keep. It is a must have for jazz lovers.

There is a reason musicians are lining up for the opportunity to play with Los Guachos and Guillermo Klein in particular. Crisp, refreshing like a cold summer wheat beer on a hot day.
Release Date November 16, 1999
Why did I as high school boy who knew nothing about jazz, fusion, Chick Corea, Gary Burton or much of anything else pick up and buy this lp at MusicLand in the Tippecanoe Mall in about 1979? I don't know. I do know I was looking for something I'd never heard before, and this album drew me to it. Maybe it was the mysterious sunrise (or sunset?)picture on the cover. I distinctly remember picking it out though. Wow! What a great album. I've wandered around all kinds of music since, and have recently dusted off my old lps. This one still stands as a fave. My old vinyl is pretty crackly, so I look forward to getting a new CD of it and being wowed once again.
