I've been listening to McMurtry since he was recording with the support of Mellencamp's band, and I s'pose, the music hasn't changed all that much. Hell, why should it? Each album get's just a little better and James is becoming a more accomplished guitarist. Maybe he is a little negative about our political state, but give a listen, and if you don't agree with the sentiment, then you deserve whatever musical schlock you may be enjoying.

As others have said, the songs are longer and not quite as crisp. But so what? Most of the songs went right from the CD to my workout playlist. Because in the end, what matters is that the Fratellis are the quintessential British band of this decade in the same way that Kings of Leon are the quintessential American band. Neither could be from the other country. The Fratellis come out of a rock tradition that is rooted in the British music hall, not the American south. They are the heirs of the Kinks, T-Rex, Slade, Oasis...highly melodic, highly rhythmic, insightful, funny, and just plain fun. Give me these guys over the world-weary Arctic Monkeys any day!

I have no idea why, but this record and "The Forgotten Arm" absolutely clicked for me after eight listens. It's like the entire album opened up and demanded my attention. Before that point, they sounded like a batches of similar songs.
I can't think of another artist where this is the case, but if you're finding this record to be just "OK" after a few listens, keep playing it. It's another amazing disc from one of the best songwriters around.

This album is so good that its honestly challenging of me to think of which ones are my favorites. This album will grow on you each listen. My husband got this album for me as a birthday gift and I am glad that he did. The reason being is that I really thought all of the songs on the cd are great. However my top five favorite songs on this cd are "animals", "if everyone cared", "rockstar", "saving me" and "follow you home". The thing that I like most about this cd is that it is an all purpose cd in the fact that you can listen to it in multiple occasions. I have listened to it on my way to and from work, when I go for walks outside, at work, and at home. The best thing about this cd is there are is going to a song for everyone that is on this album.

This is another good pop album from the Old 97's with a lot of toe tapping melodies and some great jangly guitar work. It's not as alt-country sounding as their earlier masterpieces like "Too far to Care" or "Wreck Your Life", but there's still a lot of good material on this new album. Overall, not a bad song on the whole thing, and that's saying something. For the ultimate Old 97's experience, they need to be seen live. But in the meantime as we wait for them to come back to town, this disc in the CD player will do just fine. Oh yeah, and also a thumbs up to their previous live album, "Alive & Wired".

Take a base of alternative quirkiness. Add a slight techno beat. Then some high pitched vocals. Next mix with a dash of funk. And top it off with some power pop, and viola! You have MGMT. I cannot reccomend this album highly enough. This New York based indie rock band is set to hit the big time.
The cd starts off with a bang hiting hard with the great track "Time to Pretend." And this is could be argued for as the highlight of the disc. But if you stop there, you are selling yourself short. "Electric Feel" almost reminds of you of a 70s disco. And "Pieces of What" is a perfect merge of radio hooks and rock n roll. Also not to be overlooked would be "The Handshake" and "Kids."
Some people compare them to Muse, and you can see the influence there. But the more you listen ... Read More:

This is a wonderful album, each song is unique and touching. I have been listening to it non-stop. Everyone should listen to this really thoughtful and original work by Feist.

Pearl Jam was a big disapointment to this listener. Do you think they could have sung a song where you could actually understood the words. What a waste of money when I bought this music.
