"Trip-hop"? "Downtempo"? Although it is a dark record, between Beth Gibbons' tortured voice, Geoff Barrows' beats, scratches and samples, and Adrian Utleys' jazzy guitar: this album is pure sex.

Stay Positive, when compared to the previous releases of THS, does have a feeling of a smirking smile, even in the midst of the subject matter. Everything from (dare I say) Springsteen style epic rock ballads and subject matter, to beat poetry and phenomenal lyrical story telling.
I've read that Craig Finn has indicated that he sings about the specific to describe the general"- and he does it quite well. Often times, its a bit didactic, hes repeating the same lines which didn't need underlining and emphasis. But there is brilliance, and pretty consistent brilliance.
Songs like "Constructive Summer " and "Sequestered in Memphis" are smooth and quite perfect- and "yeah sapphire" is a rock guitar gem. IF you like indie/alternative ... Read More:

The CD The 13th Hour is probably Midnight Syndicate's best work, although I am a fan of their first two albums. Compared to Nox Arcana's haunted house CD Darklore Manor, this might edge it out, though it's close. I recommend this album to anybody wanting to create a Halloween environment in October. It is not overly Gothic and not overly powerful like Darklore Manor is. It is creepy in a more subtle way.

Afterglow is exceptional. Sarah has a beautiful voice and is one of the very best Jazz vocalists. This album is very good and a great pleasure to listen to.

Artists who don't grow... tend to die. Anyone familiar with Juliana's work will sense a similar structure, but experience a distinctly new execution. Personally, I like her new direction as much as her past efforts, and 'Some Girls' makes for a nice bridge between the two.

Before I comment, I'd like you all to know that I'm a huge BF fan and was anticipating this release anxiously. I have all his piano transcription books and enjoy playing along with his tunes whenever I can. That being said, I was a bit disappointed in the selections from this album. Like the previous reviewer mentioned, it seems a bit weak, and certainly not one of his better releases. There are two selections which follow the same vein as his earlier albums which I really like - Cologne & Kylie, but the rest were somewhat reminiscent of Naked Baby Photos. Bottom line is, I will still support his work, and purchase his future stuff no matter what :) Haven't had a chance to look/listen at the DVD & live CD yet.

I think all the songs on this are well done...they have melodies which a lot of other hard rock/metal doesn't. I have Indestructible and The Sickness also. Indestructible has guitar solos which i like, but i like the songs better on Ten Thousand Fists. I'm not a great music critic but I think if you like disturbed then you need to have this album.
Oh, and shame on whoever tagged this as alternative rock.

I was very surprised that the overall opinion on this album was so negative. Because this is, not only the best Tool album (Lateralus is very close, I admit), it is also one of the best albums I've ever heard, hands down - and one of the albums I've heard the most times in my life. So many times I know every passage, every awesome bass chop, every drum fill down to the last detail (well, almost) - and yet I still haven't tired of it! If anything, it keeps getting better.
I suppose I, on an objective level, can see why some of you might feel disappointed - it is a slow-moving, long, dragged-out affair as opposed to especially Undertow and Aenima, but it's also incredibly fresh and instantly intruguing in many cases. At least I was instantly awe-inspired by the guitar ... Read More:
