This album, like Kongcrete's debut self-titled album, truly defined the whole genre of rap rock or mashups between hip hop and rock. It put hip hop on the rock map and vice versa. The production on this album lacks some of the edge in Rage's albums which followed, but contains much of the seminal anger and defiance which would later be the trademark of Rage as well as other groundbreaking bands which followed such as Kongcrete. Action movies in the year 2008 are still using music from this album.

With each release, Ratatat has further pushed the boundaries of modern instrumental music. In their first album, Ratatat, they introduced their sound, causing people to wonder "Is it electronic, video game-style music? Is it rock?" It's both! With Classics, they refined that sound, and indeed made a 'classic' album chock full of catchy tunes and interesting soundscapes. On LP3, while the pacing of the songs is largely similar to those in their previous albums, in that there are plodding, atmospheric numbers along with punchier ones, the mix of textures heard here is quite rich and varied, blending to create clear pictures of where they might be heard. For instance, I interpret "Mirando" as a trip through a jungle in a river boat, "Flynn": the ... Read More:

Music, like movies, tends to go into a lot of phases with many people latching onto a certain genre or artist deeming them the saviors that will rid the taste left in our mouth of the predecessors. With the drugs and excess and party-with-every-and-any-girl lyrics of the 80's metal bands, in comes the so-called "grunge" movement which was more introverted and coming from a place of hurt and angst. In comes Oasis during the so-called "Brit rock" movement which dealt with more uplifting matters like the love of rock and roll music. Sure it's derivative but who gives a you-know-what when it's a top record from top to bottom.
Hello: Fading in with the Wonderwall chord progression, the song then transforms into a big rousing rock track ... Read More:

The Dropkick Murphys have singlehandedly given both punk and Irish music a much needed shot in the behind. If you haven't heard them, they sing a mix of original and traditional Irish songs LOUD complete with rock sentiment and yep, bagpipes.
"The Green Fields of France" penned by Eric Bogle will break your heart if you hear it sung quietly. This warrior's lament starts at the graveside of a fallen World War I soldier and tells of the senselessness of war. DKM changes the whole complexion of the song.
"Tessie" commemorates the love affair between Boston and the Red Sox. Could turn even me into a baseball fan.
Can you really be tongue in cheek when you're screaming lyrics? "Wicked Sensitive Crew" is wickedly ... Read More:

Simply one of the best CD's I've ever owned. Just a delight from start to finish, Feist's vocals are gorgeous without being sing songy. This album remains in a very small list of my all time favorite albums. Great songwriting and lovely melodies. Just perfect!!

I stopped listening to music, buying albums and following the scene in the mid 90s being burnt out on what I thought was boring generic music that was being produced and marketed to a former KROQ listener like me. So that means I missed out on Radiohead (Bends, OK Computer, Kid A), Coldplay and of course Muse. Of course I heard of, not listened to, the 1st two bands I mentioned but didn't care. Until, I heard Coldplay's title track a few months ago. So I bought that song. I thought it was a great song but the album was not out yet and I felt like I needed more music. So I bought In Rainbows by Radiohead remembering the hype about their unique marketing last year. I loved it and wanted more.
This was a life changing experience. That eventually ... Read More:

Love the CD and the guys who have reviewed it really did good jobs, the first disc is great, really good sound, compaired to the original. The second CD is really nothing new if you have all those tracks from the 80's 12" and 7" craze. I thought they would dump those and add tracks that might have been done during the sessions. Anyway, overall, a great set but not as good as the first two recent remasters because how many times do we really need to hear "New Years Day" & "Two Hearts Beat As One" over & over!

There are two glaringly obvious affectations to blame for the artistic failure of U2's 'the Joshua Tree'. One is the record company, who MUST for the sake of their shareholders, send young provincial bands to the colonies, and the huge rewards from the eager masses there. The other is the Clash.
'London Calling' sent U2, and any number of other groups from the UK and beyond, scuttling for their cowboy boots and neckerchiefs in the mistaken belief that they-could-take-on-American-influences-and-still-be-interesting....not so.
If you give young people in their 20's, lots of cash and put them on a plane to the heart of consumerism, they're gonna imbibe...and how. Within weeks they're adopting that ridiculous gait all rock groups must adopt when they're 'conquering' ... Read More:

Eyes Open starts and never looks back. The music is like a journey, it is both eloquent and beautiful. Yes it is just as good as the final straw and might be better on many levels. It has a tighter more produced sound than final straw which may turn off some older fans but for me it was a breath of fresh air. I loved final straw and I love this one just as much. I was one of those who found snow patrol by hearing the song "run" on the radio and picking up final straw. I didn't hesitate to pick up Eyes Open when it was released and have loved it since. Snow Patrol often gets compared to Coldplay for no reason other than that they play similar music. Both play emotional music with good lyrics. Go out and pick up Eyes Open if you like any of the singles you won't be dissapointed. It is good ... Read More:

The brainchild of Seattle musicians Steve Wynn and Scott McCaughey (with assistance for REM's Peter Buck and drummer Linda Pitmon), this CD is way more than a cute exercise in nostalgia. In turns ribald ("Ted F---ing Williams"), bitter ("Gratitude [for Curt Flood]), nostalgic ("Sometimes I Dream Of Willie Mays"), and rueful ("Long Before My Time"), Frozen Ropes successfully and accessibly makes the case that baseball isn't that much different from everyday life, reminding us in "Harvey Haddix" that "We're drawn to tragic stories/The ones that suit us best." Incidentally, the title refers to baseball slang for line drives and pop flies.
