... as we know them today.
As a longtime Radiohead fan (one of my 3 favorite groups), I thought I'd finally start reviewing some of their albums. Looking at them comparatively with each other and as albums on their own right.
I start with the Bends because this is the album that really made Radiohead who they are. Previous to this album, Radiohead was going to be a one-hit wonder. Thom Yorke didn't want that, so they put out what is probably one of the best albums of the 90's. Unlike later Radiohead albums, The Bends is a straight out rock/alternative album. There isn't anything terribly complex about it in terms of accessibility, although the song writing does show the greatness that has evolved over the years. ... Read More:

Who doesn't like Jack Johnson!?! I listen to this one every morning, because of the relaxed (yet upbeat) music. Good buy!
Release Date August 22, 2006
I loved the entire cd. To appreciate the impact of both singers, you might want to view the movie "ONCE". The movie gives a much deeper impact to the songs and artists.

I recently watched their Transatlanticism tour "Drive Well Sleep Carefully" on HBO and loved the songs. Normally I don't purchase an entire album unless I'm familiar with the artist and their music. So, I was pleasantly surprised by this purchase because it is a very good album. Other than just liking the sound of the band, I also enjoyed the enthusiasm that is evident when listening to their songs, like they really love what they're doing. I'm not good at giving reviews, I just know what I like, and I definitely like this album. I will probably end up buying all of their albums.

If you love EmmyLou's great voice, then this collection is a "must own". Each disc is as great as the next. I get very tired of an artist when I try to listen to all three or four discs of a box set at one sitting. Not this compilation---kept my interest through all four discs in a row. Played all four again, and then once more the following day---I've never tried that before, and I do own some great box sets---Ray Charles, Rod Stewart, Johnny Cash, Buck Owens, Jefferson Airplane, Moody Blues, even the Stones---but they all tend to get a bit "long in the tooth" after awhile. EmmyLou manages to stay fresh the whole time.
Now, as for the packaging that eveyone is complaining about---I was prepared for the worst! However, disc three is the ... Read More:

Based on a number of listens, and comparison to the prior albums--their first album,Asleep in the Back [Bonus Track] and the second albumCast of Thousands the most current Elbow album "The Seldom Seen Kid" is a continuation of the well produced and quiet nature of Elbow. Sadly, I have not heard really spent a ton of time listening to their third album, "Leaders of the Free World" Leaders of the Free World. That will be changing with this most recent recording. I am digging into listen more intently!
My own listening involves a lot of random and mixed artist play from recent and older play lists. I tend to buy a bunch of music --drop it on my player and let the experience sort itself out in a random mode. When I stop and wonder and look to ... Read More:

The Peppers did it. They created their best album yet. This is the first album in three years that I have been able to continusely listen to. The music is definitely mellower than past RHCP, but in my opinion, suits them better than anything they've ever done. All four of these guys are in their elements on this album. Frusciante's guitar playing is, while no Hendrix, definitely well-suited to the album, and he keeps up beautifully with anything handed to him. Flea is, as always, amazing. Chad Smith, while not a standout, fits into his rythyms and intracacies fine. Kiedis' voice, while not stunning, is the only voice that could work for these guys--I personally like his voice quite a bit. There are both standout gems on the album, and a few that could have been ... Read More:

I can't really understand it, but for some reason, the country that gave the world the Beatles, Rolling Stones, Who, Clapton, Hendrix's Experience, Pink Floyd, Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, etc., has been virtually ignored by American music listeners since, well, the late-70s/early-80s (we can argue about British punk in America). I've heard it explained this way: hip-hop never really caught on in Britain but exploded in the US, and wiped England off the musical consciousness of Americans. Who knows. I have an alternative theory: that America's rightward shift, profound conservatism and navel-gazing resists more adventurous music and instead seeks out sound-a-like bands that mimic whoever's big at the moment (Pearl Jam, Nirvana, Beck, NIN, whatever).

This was my first and last Paul Thorn album for me. I had several friends speak highly of his music......guess this is not the album they have. Won't waste my time or money again on him.

Not many people do music like this anymore; you know the over the top heavy metal grunge hybrid that was so popular with kids in the late 90s, Live is gone, Candlebox has been snuffed out and yet Evanescence not only continues to do this type of music, they sell millions of gazillions of CDs doing it. Of course they do have the angst ridden Amy Lee to lead them, something those other bands never had.
Despite myself I really like Evanescence, the first album blew me away due to the fact that I didn't think it would ever get more than a passing glance on my CD shelf, but every now and then it ends up back on the stereo. So I figured I'd take a shot and get The Open Door. If you liked the first album, you're going to like this one. There's nothing new from the ... Read More:
