I tried "Ghosts I-IV" and found I really couldn't get into it, because for me, one track was identical to every other other track, and every other track was the same as every other other track, and with no titles or lyrics or any sort of distinction beyond "Ghost I" and so on. The songs were, on the whole, completely unremarkable on their own.

I haven't given up on the album but thus far it just seems to be one long, four or five or however many hour, jam session with separations in tracks given sometimes at random. Maybe it works for Jazz and some Rock, but I never liked Jazz, and I have a very hit and miss relationship with many musical genres.

I would have to say, that unfortunately, this is by far Beck's weakest effort to date, which is really a shame because I have always considered Beck to be one of the most consistently creative and intriguing artists of our time with nearly all of his works being brilliant in an entirely different way. Unfortunately, Modern guilt gives just seems to say that Beck isn't even trying. Every one of Becks albums before this seem have atleast a few tracks that seem to jump out at you. There are really no tracks on this album that really grab me. Don't get me wrong, there is nothing outright bad about the album, but it does (at least to me) comes across as faceless. Alright, so you've probably heard a lot about this album and this band but I think this album and the band deserve so much credit. If you haven't really listened to anything off this album yet, I'm going to convince you to. Read on.

This amazing album has two disks: Jupiter and Mars; both fantastic. Its sound is way different than previous RHCP albums but still keeps they're original style and flair. With crazy bass lines from bassist Flea and funky guitar rifts from guitarist John Frusciante, this album is packed with creativity and has something for everyone. Drums are always great too when you got Chad Smith on them; one of the few guys in rock music these days that keeps a smile on his face.

This is a must have for any serious Kink collector. There is no need to repeat the other reviews which list in detail all of the great tracks. For those negative reviews, face facts. No greatest hits or compilation has it all, or even covers all time periods. Probably a record company conspiracy to make you buy more music. Any band with a lot of decent output is going to have songs over decades. If your into a band, you simple have two choices. Buy all the albums, or start with an excellent compilation like this, and then start filling in the gaps with either individual albums or songs. If you don't want to shell out, that's why the invented iTunes and now Amazon mp3 downloads.

One word: chills. Even a non-fan of Muse will have a tough time making it through the opening "Knights of Cydonia" without being swept away by the blistering energy. If you have had the fortune of seeing this remarkable band live, this set does a fine job capturing some of the incredible power they bring to the stage, and has proven a fine way to introduce the uninitiated to what live acts aspire to inspire.

The DVD does a far better job of lifting off (the Prokofiev from "Romeo and Juliet," while a lovely musical nod to introduce the band and the first song, is an over-long and somewhat baffling opening track on the CD), but both discs keep you riveted to the ending chords of "Take a Bow." ...now I looked back through the negative reviews before finally reviewing this to see if they agreed with my way of thought...well...in all fairness most of them were very harsh reviews that seemed rather mallevolent towards the band...while the polar opposite (most of the positve reviews) were stating that this was quite possibly the best Nu-Metal out there and how it should have been...ok...I'm going to try and explain why I disliked this in an attempt not to be ridiculously critical...

...as far as Nu-Metal goes I'm not an expert....but I must say in contrast to this I prefered Korn's Debut and most of Deftones earlier work...so I would stick to that because I felt more power and creativity went into it (THIS IS AN OPINION)...now being English this band ... Read More:

i am a huge Melvins fan, and those like me have seen them go through different incarnations (and bass players). this line-up of original members King Buzzo and Dale Crover along with the fellas from Big Business is hard rocking, vocally and harmonically intriguing, but still the Melvins. i have my list of favorite Melvins' albums, and this one ranks up at the top - some of their best work. they have always been the band (like mr. bungle) that you either get or you don't - they have always done "their own thing", so it's often difficult to turn friends on to their music. this is one of their albums that your friends and first-time Melvins listeners might actually GET.

I recently watched their Transatlanticism tour "Drive Well Sleep Carefully" on HBO and loved the songs. Normally I don't purchase an entire album unless I'm familiar with the artist and their music. So, I was pleasantly surprised by this purchase because it is a very good album. Other than just liking the sound of the band, I also enjoyed the enthusiasm that is evident when listening to their songs, like they really love what they're doing. I'm not good at giving reviews, I just know what I like, and I definitely like this album. I will probably end up buying all of their albums.

Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga is great. This is not radio rock or pop. This album is not for people that enjoy Nickleback, Creed, or other power chord ridden ballads. It is for rock and rollers looking for the next legendary sound.

For those of your who enjoy those bands, please do not take offense, but please do pay attention to the distinct differences between Spoon and all the rest. Not only is this a well built album, but Spoon stays true to themselves.

They produce songs like "Cigarette Case" that builds a complete song with few lyrics and exceptional musicality. On the other end of the spectrum, "The Underdog" is catchy and fun, but has unique attributes which pushes this past bland pop and into complex rock.
