The novelty factor in this album (she sings in several different languages) wears off quick. If you want world music I'd recommend the Putumayo CDs. This album here is dull and repetitious (though exciting at first because you have no idea what she's on about).

The Brazilian Girls have had 2 other albums prior to New York City, but like a fine wine thay only get better w/ time. This album is something you really need to take the time to listent to. Those are the best kinds. It's like a pilgrimage of music. You really have to search and listen to it over and over again, and it only makes you love it and appreciate it more and more.
My Favorite songs are " Internacional" which features the artist Baba Maal, who is amazing, and it just makes you feel like you're running through every deep, amazing culture you can think of. My second favorite is the song "L'Interprete" I love this song because it was written by Sabina and Didi and it is one of the first and only slow paced song the Brazilian Girls have made. ... I have yet to see the musical SPRING AWAKENING (but am planning to see it February 2009 when it comes to the Fox in St. Louis). However, I have a friend whose favorite musical is SPRING AWAKENING and he recently gave me the soundtrack to listen to. I have to admit that I really enjoy it. The songs are sung in a variety of genres, but mainly have a pop-rock ballad feel to them. Many of the songs are very moving and have an emotional depth beyond just the context of the show for which they were written. My favorites include

#1 "Mamma Who Bore Me"--a bluesy folk song of remembrance. Many of my female friends have cited this as their favorite song on the album.

I have heard all the songs on Insomniac and Dookie and loved them.When I got this I was expecting kind of the same music but got totaly different and I like it.They kinda got away from their punk roots but that's fine by me.I love all the songs on here.The only song that I could live without was Rock and Roll Girlfriend segment on Homecoming.My personal favorite song on the album was either Holiday or Saint Jimmy.The lyrics are sometimes hard to understand because of his accent but you can always go on google to see what they are.The guitar,drum,and backup singers all are very talented and do a fantastic job.Recommended to any Green Day fan.

This certainly must be as worthwhile a DMB album as any other they have come out with. It is one that, in retrospect especially, you get the feeling the creative effortlessness which guided all twelve of these unique afro-pop-rock-jazz fusion treats and framed all of them in such a warmth has all but completely run dry. Whether you are a fan of the band's signature sound or not is besides the point that Crash can rate as one of the more solid major label rock records of the 90's-easy. What did not become a massive hit on radio is an even greater treat to hear. The only possible problems I see are the sometimes overindulgences Matthews uses vocally, and the fact that Crash Into Me/Let You Down, and Too Much/Tripping Billies feel similar. You want anything good that's acoustic guitar? Get something by Nick Drake or Andrew Collins (or Mandolin, but close), Elliot Smith, Dave Matthews Band (as long as it's not everyday, ick), R.E.M. heck, the Beatles have an arsenal of wicked, beautiful acoustic guitars. He's retiring, by the way.

"Heavier Things" is John Mayer's second studio album which was released on September 9th of 2003. The style on this album is soft-rock, as this comes from a period before he transitioned into blues. The album consists of 10 tracks, including the Grammy award winning "Daughters". The title of the album appears to be an answer for those who criticized Mayer's music as being too light.

The album opens with "Clarity", a song for which the meaning is not all that clear, but in general it seems to be about Mayer's self-perception. The second track is "Bigger than My Body" which is about the frustration of not being able to accomplish in reality what one wants to do in their mind, and in particular relates to John Mayer's desire to write more meaningful music. I checked out The Swell Season at Bonnaroo this year and they blew me away with their rich and finely textured songs. This first album captures the same spirit, in a sonically richer environment. Highly recommended to any fan of fabulous songwriting and beautiful harmony and melody.

Matt Nathanson is not an artist that we get to hear in New Zealand. So I'm glad I stumbled across his music on the net. A really inspiring CD (as is 'Beneath these Fireworks - which I ordered at the same time) that I haven't stopped listening to since it arrived on my doorstep. Totally recommended!
