I bought this cd recently when I needed another purchase to get me over the $25 mark for free delivery from Amazon. I've been an avid Lucinda Williams fan for a couple of years, and I've heard all of her albums from the past ten years, so I was interested to see what she sounded like in the beginning. This is supposed to be her first album, and it is certainly different from any of the other albums by Williams that I have heard.
Ramblin' is a collection of folk and blues tunes by artists such as Robert Johnson. Playing 12 string guitar and singing with a beautiful voice, Lucina does some excellent justice to many of these songs. On the other hand, an entire album of other peoples music tires after awhile. It's rather an odd trip when ... Read More:

First,I have to admit a thing or two: I absolutely love Muldaur's last two acoustic blues albums, second I frequently listen 1920s blues queens on my I-pod (I collect with interest & enthusiasm their original music) so naturaly I was very excited and curious about this album. It might be that I'm too familiar with originals but I have impression that while Muldaur honestly loved & enjoyed previous two albums, this is done for the sake of finishing the trilogy. The magic is present only on duet with Bonnie Raitt who gracefuly harmonises from behind and dont push herself too much in front, excatly as young Muldaur did on her 1968 recording of the same song with great late Sippie Wallace.Althought Muldaur herself have talent, ability, attitude and formal connections ... I will admit I'm a new Taj Mahal Fan. I met him at a private party several years ago and saw him again at the same annual party last fall.
I enjoy his music and this 2 CD set is good driving tunes.
Release Date September 05, 2000
first, I would say I think Taj Mahal is a great performer! I've seen Taj Mahal perform a few times here in Amsterdam during the last 10 years, and live he's a sensation!
But I'm a bit confused, I hope some of the blues experts, here on Amazon can help me out. Both this album, "Taj Mahal", and the Roots 'n' Blues series reissue "Taj's Blues" (I love that series!) claim to be a reissue of his first album. And of course there is a overlap in songs. (and to have all the songs you have to buy both?) Could someone help me out? what's the story about this?

some material is repetitive but overall a must for any blues listener or any other music listener. the nuances of his playing develope deeper with each listening. hooker, buddy guy, b.b. king--what a great cache of music we have at our eartips to listen to.

I find music in a completely serendipitous manner: I work next to a music magazine and I grab their discards, either when they sell them for 3 bucks to raise money for charity, or eventually give them away at the end of the year when the cupboards are bursting with old reviewed cds. I grab anything that looks intersting and that I haven't heard before. This is how I have discovered some of my favourite music.
And it's how I discovered Po' Girl. Aweful name, terrible album cover, so I'm still not quite sure why I picked it out. But boy, am I glad I did. Initially it was the opening track 'Tell Me A Story' that made me realize this was special. The harmonies, the soul, the blues, the alt-country sound: so beautiful. 'Movin' On', has a sexy catchy beat. 'Take The Long Way' ... Read More:

Their music transcends all classes and ages. This was our first Watermelon Slim CD but it won't be our last. We saw him last night on stage, don't miss an opportunity to see and hear him in person when you have the chance.

Ry Cooder is an American treasure; he belongs in the Smithsonian. Who else would begin a long, restless, ethno-musicological folk/rock guitar odyssey by working in that enclave of oddity known as Captain Beefheart's Magic Band? Cooder didn't exactly burst onto the scene in 1970, but, with that vintage Airstream posed in the desert, and emerging hipster friends like Randy Newman and Van Dyke Parks, he eased onto it in a big way. From the very start, Cooder focused all his attention on the song itself. He obviously loved tracking down obscure, dust-covered numbers, frequently from as far back as the Great Depression. Often they had a narrative quality, as in the splendid, "F.D.R. In Trinidad." His style was lean and elegant, flashy solos were avoided, however, his complete command of the ... Read More:

I heard one of Mr. Taylor's songs at the end of "The Shooter" and was so moved I searched for his music to learn more. As a classic rock and classic country afficianado you might say I'm a little out of my league writing a review on Taylor's work. His music is soulful, deep, blues-y, full of emotion, powerful and thought provoking. I put the CD in my truck (I did say I'm a country fan afterall!) and lose myself in the lyrics as I travel down the road. I'll be buying more Otis Taylor and suggest you do the same.
