I happen to like Blues and especially when a master guitarist like Eric picks up an acoustic guitar and slows everything down to almost ballad tempo. He gently allows the blues in his life to come forth as beautiful music that eveyone can appreciate.

And when I got "Son Of" it is great. Bronx in Blue should be played in every school to educate our children about blues roots music. Of course, the original artists are great , however, I can understand Dion's interpretation and his performance is energizing. This is not 'sit-down'
music! He deserved the Grammy...

Man.
Between Mavis Staples's new Ry Cooder produced album and this new piece of awe-inspiring artistry from Otis Taylor and friends, I'm just not sure which album lands in my top spot for the past year. But it has been an amazing year for Roots Music.
Buy this. You won't regret it. Even if you aren't a Banjo Fan (and didn't grow up in a little town that had yearly Banjo and Fiddler's contests, like I did,)...you'll love this album. Even if you aren't aware of THE OTIS TAYLOR and the fact that he left music for 20 years only to come back and make my idiot self cry with joy and sadness over his content on the first album back. Buy this disc.
Even if you aren't sure you could enjoy a Blues album? Buy it.

Simply 'the best' for the voodoo of truely great Harmonica boogie improvisation. Alan Wilsons [pre-suicide] respect and harmonica 'call & response' to John Lees creative outpourings are like nothing else before or since. What a session. This record is a highly influencial album in my life and stands as a great example of 'electric Harmonica' tone and technique. I would give my 'coolies' for Al's amplifier and wonderful style. Meanwhile The whole band sounds very excited and committed to honoring their session with the legendary boogieman. What more to say? The tunes are often long improvised 'jams', spread with 'solo' loose tunes with John Lee Hooker, his words, guitar and ever tapping foot. This historical recording is not everybodys 'cup of tea' ... This album will quickly become one of your core personal favorites. I saw these guys live at a tiny venue in Birmingham and all I can say is WOW! I've NEVER seen the upright bass played like that. See these guys live; buy all their albums. I'm too old to be a groupie, but boy if I wasn't!! I saw Medeski play live in Chicago (Medeski Martin & Wood) and would highly recommend any of his albums as well!

Several years ago I went to a Bonnie Raitt concert (had great seats) and the pre-show performer was Keb Mo. I had never heard him or his music, but I had met Bonnie back in the early 70's and was so looking forward to seeing her and listening to her set. When Keb Mo came on stage...a stool and an acustic guitar, I had no idea what I was in for! Unbelievable guitarist and that voice...WOW! I didn't want it to end. I have since purchased most of his CDs and go see every performance I can! He is the best folk type blues musician in today's world. This CD is one of his best, everything from humor to spiritual to just good 'ole "sitting of the front porch" blues. Highly recommend this CD for anyone who enjoys music without all the "technology" that often gets ... Read More:

Mississippi John Hurt recorded only 13 songs before returning to a life of obscurity and hard work on a farm. Of these 13 songs recorded in 1928, 11 were penned by John Hurt with the other two being traditional spiritual numbers ("Blessed be the name" and "Praying on the old camp ground"). The recording quality of these Okeh recordings is simply fantastic, and have the best recording quality I have heard from this era. A little hiss is heard (very little) and not much else.
As to the recordings themselves, they are probably the sweetest sounding, most mellifluous early delta/country blues I have ever heard. John Hurt may not have had the well-known name of a Robert Johnson or Son House, but these recordings have had their influence in their own way. ... Read More:

This CD, part of the soundtrack for Martin Scorsese's PBS series, showcases blues hits and singers from Robert Johnson and Son House to Robert Cray, Bonnie Raitt, Stevie Ray Vaughan, and the Allman Brothers. One can trace the evolution of blues from its raw beginnings to its more contemporary manifestations. As such, it is fun to listen to, although one can quarrel with the selections chosen for this single CD (there are other products available that are more inclusive). But I'm not quarreling about anything after having listened to this CD.
It starts right off with Robert Johnson singing "Cross Road Blues." It is always interesting listening to this artist, legend that he is. He sings with a raw blues voice and his characteristic guitar work. His role ... Read More:

This is one of my alltime favorite blues albums. It is an acoustic album and Muddy shines in this format. The only thing I didn't care for on this version were the five bonus tracks. They just don't fit the vibe of the original version. On the other hand, it's some additional Muddy Waters for no extra cost! Get this album and you won't be disappointed.
