Roy Rogers is the best slide guitar player you will ever hear, and Norton Buffalo gives the harmonica more dimension than the entire string section of a symphony orchestra. These are two masterful musicians at the top of their form. R&B comprehensively covers both their energetic improvisation and unique brand of song writing.

This is, quite honestly, the best Country Blues cd to be released in decades. We have to remember that Alvin wasn't born in Mississippi or Texas around the turn of the century. He's a young guy who was raised on Classic Rock, and here he is, writing original material that sounds like it could have come from "Hambone" Willie Newbern, King Solomon Hill, or Son House. This is truly a fantastic disc, and there's not a single song that one should avoid. Alvin Youngblood Hart is the greatest living Bluesman; even better than Corey Harris, Samuel James, Rory Block, and John Hammond, Jr. I only hope that he has a long and productive recording career. "Them Fair Weather Friends" and "Big Mama's Door" are originals, but one would never know that on first, ... Read More:

Some of John Lee Hooker's best known songs are compiled from his many years and albums onto this budget CD, with not one being one you will skip over. From "Boogie Chillen'" to "Boom, Boom," they are all here. Even the songs which made others famous, such as "One Bourbon, One Scotch, One Beer."
"I'm Bad Like Jesse James" is a favorite of mine, with this particular song showing his inimitable rambling style so strikingly, a style which over the years can be found less and less.
It should be noted that the version of "I'm in the mood" on this album is different than the Chess side he recorded with the Chess brothers (I actually prefer the more polished Chess side). But regardless, each song is representative of a different time ... Read More:

Interestingly, it was recently revealed that the three new tracks on this CD are NOT John Fahey, but a high-school teacher and student of the guitar great, Charlie Schmidt. Apparently, the songs were recorded in 1993 as part of a joke that Fahey wanted to play on his record label at the time. Fantasy records found the recordings after Fahey's death, and was totally fooled.

This collection is much better than "The Complete Recordings." I don't need two takes of the same song. This CD includes only the best version of each song, and I agree with their selections.

Ry Cooder is an American treasure; he belongs in the Smithsonian. Who else would begin a long, restless, ethno-musicological folk/rock guitar odyssey by working in that enclave of oddity known as Captain Beefheart's Magic Band? Cooder didn't exactly burst onto the scene in 1970, but, with that vintage Airstream posed in the desert, and emerging hipster friends like Randy Newman and Van Dyke Parks, he eased onto it in a big way. From the very start, Cooder focused all his attention on the song itself. He obviously loved tracking down obscure, dust-covered numbers, frequently from as far back as the Great Depression. Often they had a narrative quality, as in the splendid, "F.D.R. In Trinidad." His style was lean and elegant, flashy solos were avoided, however, his complete ... Read More:

What an incredible performer! We first saw Samuel play last year in New Hampshire and he just blew us away. "Songs Famed for Sorrow and Joy" is a very exciting first album. Every song is his own. Buy the album and then check his schedule on his MySpace page and go see him!

The totally amazing James Edward "Jimmy" Yancey was an amateur pianist who recorded the most outrageously beautiful blues ever played on a piano by anyone. His rock steady grooves and rolling tempos never quit, and he's also able to slow things down to poignant laments of unsurpassed feeling and beauty. This music really needs to be heard, and Yancey's influence on many modern jazz players - whether it's direct or indirect - ought to be recognized. Listen to Yancey and think of Monk; you're definitely in for a surprise.

First let me say I'm a HUGE fan of Wolfman & The Roadmasters and thrilled that they have been able to release yet another album. Out Of The Dark is still my favorite Wolfman album but this new release is definately moving up the list. If you like good, funky, R&B/blues/jazz/soul you will enjoy this album. Buy a bunch of copies and give them to your friends and let's hope that we can keep this great band out on the road and bringing this great music to our towns. Keep up the good work Wolfman... Hopefully we'll see you in East Tennessee soon!
