This album is a breath of fresh air in an age when so many parents buy records for their kids based on the brand name (Barney, Sesame Street) or perceived educational value (Baby Mozart). It teaches values and self-esteem, lessons that are good for any age (particularly in "Still the Same Me"). It even encourages listeners (children and adults) to pick up their things to a neat Caribbean swing ("Oh My Goodness, Look at This Mess!").

If you are buying this album for children, it would be best to listen to the album with them a few times. That way you can encourage them to clap along with the singing ("Tuwe Tuwe"), or even improvise their own rhythms along with the group (tracks 4, 6, 9, 11, 13, 16). Songs such as "We Shall ... This is a great cd. There are one or two pieces that I wasn't that thrilled with, but overall I give this a strong recommendation. This group is amazing, talented, and create music like I've never heard. It will get into you and you won't be able to let it go!

My parents listened to this album (yes, it was an album then) all the time, so it reminds me of my childhood, and it's also just great music. The Persuasions give all of their songs passion and atmosphere. My favorites are "The Sun" and "Gypsy Woman." I particularly like to listen to this on long drives, because it's great to sing along with and it helps calm any road rage tendencies.

The Beatles Connection: The King's Singers

I am someone who has enjoyed The King's Singers for years. I have previously found their range and choices of material to be interesting and rewarding. This album however, was a disappointment. Their voices did not seem suited to the Beatles music, and the arrangements did not serve The King's Singers or The Beatles well.

My suggestion: you may want to skip this one.

I worked in Northern New Hampshire with a transplanted Canadian who was really fond of these guys. When I asked her why she liked them so much, she could only say, "Because they're so Canadian!."

I think she's absolutely right. If you buy this album, you'll be charmed by the band's relentless charm and optimism, despite their generally unsentimental approach.

By far, my favorite cut is "You Will Go To The Moon." This song captures so much self-assurance and technological optimism. Gotta love it...
