Take 6 is America's preeminent acapella gospel group, and they knocked this one out of the park! Powerful, beautiful, strong, sweet, smooth, precise, engaged, warm, loving. Brought tears to my eyes! You know you want this, so go get it, you will be glad you did!

This is a great cd. There are one or two pieces that I wasn't that thrilled with, but overall I give this a strong recommendation. This group is amazing, talented, and create music like I've never heard. It will get into you and you won't be able to let it go!

If you have a any appreciation at all for the human voice raised in song, you will absolutely LOVE this album!! I have had this album on cassette since 1990, but until three weeks ago, I'd never listened to the entire cassette. I had only listened to the first song on side A because I was that was the version of "Ave Maria" I was familiar with. THIS ALBUM is the best compilation of choral music ever!!! It's not just different versions of "Ave Maria"; it is a compilation of songs whose theme is Maria. I particularly like the Giovanni Battista Pergolesi duet, "Stabat mater: Sancta mater istud agas". You would have to be DEAD not to fall madly, deeply and completely in love with this song. All the songs on this album are GEMS!!! I ... Read More:

Marie Daulne, creator and driving force of the musical entity known as Zap Mama, has been recording and performing music for over 15 years. Born in the Congo to an African mother and Belgian father and raised primarily in Belgium, Daulne embodies the Afro-European energy of Zap Mama's musical creations. In a recent press release she recalls, "My early childhood was filled with the music of my mother, the music of the Congo... when I was growing up in Belgium... we heard a lot of French music [on the radio]. And of course, American music was also very popular all over Europe."
In her late teens Daulne made a pilgrimage back to the Congo and decided to become a musician. "...I was standing in the middle of the forest, hearing the music ... Read More:

I am someone who has enjoyed The King's Singers for years. I have previously found their range and choices of material to be interesting and rewarding. This album however, was a disappointment. Their voices did not seem suited to the Beatles music, and the arrangements did not serve The King's Singers or The Beatles well.

This version of The Lark Ascending reminds me of the 1972 version by Iona Brown and Nevllle Mariner. It's a little longer and the violin flourishes have are slightly more held back making it seem a little more intense. The brass can also be heard more clearly giving it a bigger feel. If you are looking for a new version you could not go wrong with this one. The sound quality is also superb.
The Tavener pieces are as always mystically inclined. The new pieces Lalishri is fairly accessible and I think there are traces of a Mahler violin ( his 5th symphony?) piece in it. The new pieces are very sensual and Indian flavored and definitely have a simple intensity even in the faster sections. I've not always been a fan of John Tavener, but this is really ... Read More:

This is easily my favorite Album by the Persuasions. The song selection and delivery are excellent. The arrangements are melodic. I play this one over and over. Buffalo Soldiers reminds us (African Americans) of how brave our ancesters were in the face of horrible circumstances and situations coming out of the grip of slavery. If you enjoy Accapella singing check this out.

I checked this cd out from the library for my kids (6 1/2 & 3 1/2) and now I am going to purchase a copy for ourselves. Not only did they enjoy it, but I did as well. I initially checked it out for the Teddy Bear's Picnic song, but I was very happy to see that every single track on the record was excellent. Our favorite has become the song about their band and how they sing A-Cappella and their voices are their instruments. I can't say enough good things about this cd and these singers/songs. LOVE IT!

I wasn't sure what to expect when I bought this CD. True, I could have listened on line before buying but that would have taken the fun out of the purchase. Besides, I really didn't care for the CD the first couple of times I listened but now I really love it. It's not something to listen to all the time but given the right circumstances e.g. a small gathering of friends, it's perfect. If I'd listened to online, I wouldn't have purchased it.
