Es dificil dejar de sentir admiración por este extraordinario ensamble vocal Inglés. Su capacidad interpetativa es amplísima y la forma en que sus voces se acoplan es inmaculada.En este disco interpretan arreglos de canciones de amor (y tambien de desamor) de diferentes épocas y compositores.TODO el disco es una mágnifica experiencia musical :el humor de "Chitarra d'amor",la belleza de "She's like the swallow" o el dulce desencanto de "Quand tu dors près de moi"; mencionando algunos ejemplos.
La unica objeción que tengo es que el no esten integrados todos los textos en el librillo del CD.
Yo recomendaría a cualquier amante de la música a escuchar este CD lo mas pronto posible.

It was a long time ago since I purchased the first volume of the Baltic Voices series with Paul Hillier and the Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir; it was thus with great enthusiasm that I purchased Vol. 2, and my expectations were enthusiastically met. I can wholeheartedly second reviewer J D Wilder's positive review, and would recommend any person who appreciates choral music in all its forms to obtain this CD.

My favorites are the Winter Hymn, the Grigorjeva and the Schnittke selections, though the other tracks featured on this disc deserve acclaim just as much, if only for the fact that the choir performs indefatigably throughout! This is gorgeous stuff--wonderfully sung and wonderfully recorded. I've heard a lot of Chesky releases, and the sound quality here is well above par, even for them--spacious, warm, and intimate, like the guys are singing right in front of you. (Some Chesky recordings, especially the older ones, are a bit too "cavernous" sounding for my taste.) The songs here are well chosen and well sequenced, and the arrangements customarily excellent. If you like a capella pop--or think you might--this is a no-brainer purchase. Invite the guys into your home for a personal recital!

Nicola Benedetti plays Vaughan Williams & Tavener

This version of The Lark Ascending reminds me of the 1972 version by Iona Brown and Nevllle Mariner. It's a little longer and the violin flourishes have are slightly more held back making it seem a little more intense. The brass can also be heard more clearly giving it a bigger feel. If you are looking for a new version you could not go wrong with this one. The sound quality is also superb.
The Tavener pieces are as always mystically inclined. The new pieces Lalishri is fairly accessible and I think there are traces of a Mahler violin ( his 5th symphony?) piece in it. The new pieces are very sensual and Indian flavored and definitely have a simple intensity even in the faster sections. I've not always been a fan of John Tavener, but this is really good. The bobs' first album is not that good either. There is a definite lack of maturity in the choice of songs, as most of them are boring and without any real interest.
However, the "Psycho Killer" (last track) cover is flawless and shows how this great acapella group earns its keep - fantastic harmonics, great rhythm and awesome lead singer. I recommend this album just for this song alone.
