The quality of the recording is very good. The performance has high points and low points. For one thing, someone keeps moaning and sighing loud enough during the performance so as to distract the listener at times. Sometimes the castinets and percussion seem to be a bit awkward. The music is beautiful and haunting enough to overlook these minor shortcomings. I still loved it!

While Bach and Scarlatti have always been accepted territory for pianists, I wonder why this hasn't been the case with Haendel, Rameau and Couperin. When I was a child in the late 50's and 60's, the evening meal was eaten at the dining table, with the whole family gathered together. We always had music playing ... usually Arthur Fiedler and the Boston Pops Orchestra. This great collection of Arthur Fiedler's works includes many of Fiedler's favorites, but also many of my family's favorites, too.

I have my entire CD collection in ITunes, and added this compilation to the others. I now have over 16 Fiedler CD collections, which total over 28 CD's. I am surprised at how many pieces are not duplicated from other CD's or CD collections in "100 Fiedler Favorites."

Discover Music of the Baroque Era

I really love this collection of Baroque music! Back in the 1990s, when Naxos was a new company, there was a lot of talk about their recordings not being as good as those of some other music labels, but I believe that Naxos has much improved, and terrific collections like this are testimony to the fact. There's a very nice balance on these CDs in terms of style, types of performers, and in presenting pieces that span the entire Baroque era from about 1600 to 1750. The tempos also balance nicely, though perhaps there's a slight emphasis on slower pieces, so the overall effect on me of hearing this music is peacefulness and serenity, while the etherial choral works add to that sense.

I was actually looking for The March Of The Gladiators (he famous circus music) When I found this album, but when I read all rest of the program, I knew I had to have it.
Most of the marches are by European composers, although J.P. Sousa is included, but many of the pieces are well known to American audiences as themes from movie, radio, and television shows, even though we don't know their titles.
Together they make a fascinating, lively, and truly entertaining musical show. I love to play this disc while working. It's fun to listen to, and helps set a brisk pace. Another practical use for this disc might be for storeowners to play it in place of muzak during the last hour before closing.(It would gently encourage shoppers to shop quickly and check out.) ...
