Folk, jazz, Spanish-favor, classical--sorry, no rap. My twenty-something son gave me this for Father's Day early. I bought a copy for my seventy-something father in celebration of the same holiday. We all love it. See Andy McKee on YouTube.

I needed a collection of Nina Simone and after careful thinking and looking at the selection on Amazon I chose this one. And I have been very pleased.
My first demand was to get "Feeling good" and here it is. Wonderful, sensual, unforgettable. I was also curious about "Mississippi goddamn", which I've never heard on Finnish radio but saw a bit in a documentary about soul. It's a compelling performance, starts so harmlessly, tongue-in-cheek and builds up to a description of racism and plea for liberty - which inspired Sam Cooke to create his "A change is gonna come".
Nina Simone was a marvellous pianist and a great voice, that had more than one side. It's interesting to hear the less heard version of "My baby just cares ... Read More:

You probably saw a Youtube video of Andy and then decided to buy his music. Good choice. Andy McKee is currently one of the most critical talents in the world of guitar, combining his magical songwriting with refined technical skills and innovative techniques. His heart fills the music as he makes it all look so easy. Andy's music is timeless and truly valuable to listen to for relaxation or just for the sake of beautiful music.

I've only recently "discovered" that I like Big Band music. We Boomers grew up loving our rock 'n roll and mostly thought of the Glenn Miller Band and others like it as relics of our parents' days in the Depression and World War II. After rap came to the forefront of popular "music", I listened to Classical music exclusively and got very comfortable with the music of Beethoven, Mozart, Haydn, and many others.
Through a series of odd coincidences I tuned in several times to an AM radio station here in Colorado Springs that plays a lot of orchestral and band music from the 30's through the early 60's. To my surprise, I found myself listening to all this stuff from Glenn Miller, Benny Goodman, and others.

First heard on Canadian radio, I was lucky to find it at AMazon. (where else?) As a long time listener to what is erroniously called "classical" music, I have found the clarity of expression in this CD amazing. Mr. Hamelin's renditions are a marvel of dexterity, and the Kapustin Sonata No 2 is so full of ear worms that I don't know whether to be angry or hopelessly in love. On a scale of five stars, 17!

I agree with the other negative reviews above. If you want to hear what sounds like a porn star breathily singing Bob Marley, this is perfect for you. Otherwise, don't waste your money. I could barely make it through the entire CD. And the female artist sounds NOTHING like Astrud Gil. I'll stick to pure Bob and never stray again!

I very much appreciate Amazon.com's "heroic efforts" at obtaining this recording. I had tried so many places subsequent to ordering this CD, attempting to find it for immediate purchase, and come away empty-handed, that I was convinced the thing actually didn't exist, and Amazon would eventually inform me that they just couldn't get it.
Then, lo and behold, I got an email right about the time of my despair, saying it had shipped.
I have to say that the version of "All The Things You Are" on this record is absolutely superb!
Regarding the sound quality, although it is billed as a "remaster," it is obvious that they had such poor mono masters to work with in the first place that there was only so much that could be done. ... Read More:

The music of Eliane Elias is deeply harmonic and sensual. At its heart is utterly superb jazz piano - rhythmic, gently propulsive and essentially (though not overtly) Brazilian. Elias infuses her sonorous, vibrant playing with some pleasingly melodic, whispery-delicate vocals - always pitch-perfectly complementing her sumptuous piano verve.
'Bossa Nova Stories' combines loving interpretations of Brazilian jazz classics with some popular American standards, all quality-assured by the formidable rhythm section of top-level bassist Marc Johnson (her husband) and percussionist Paulo Braga. About half the tracks are enriched by subtle orchestral arrangements conducted by Rob Mathes - reminiscent to me of those that embellish Diana Krall's 'The Look of ... Read More:
