I have always loved The Verve. They're one of my all-time top 3 favorite bands. I've heard everything of theirs that I could get my hands on over the past 15 years or so. On their earliest singles, their The Verve EP, No Come Down, A Storm in Heaven, and A Northern Soul, The Verve are the perfect blend of heavy-mellow beauty with just the right amount of danger. On epic tracks like "Feel" they could simultaneously lull you into bliss and scare you into a cold sweat. To me The Verve was one of the best bands America ever almost missed. By the time Urban Hymns came out The Verve was so big in Europe that radio stations here had to pay attention. Seriously, stop already with the Radiohead comparisons. This sounds nothing like Radiohead, not Pablo Honey, not The Bends, not ANYTHING EVER by Radiohead. Just because Coldplay's singer tries to sing in a high register like Thom Yorke sings, doesn't necessarily mean the two bands sound alike. Coldplay, for instance, sucks big ones. Radiohead is sort of a brilliant band. There's one difference right there, just for starters.
But whatever, you're not a loser or anything if you like this garbage. Lots of people like garbage even worse than this! So there, feel good knowing that you're not utterly, totally, hopelessly devoid of taste (maybe).

This CD is my first exposure to Coldplay and I am at a loss as to why all the fuss over this band. Then again if you enjoy mainstream, commercial music this is for you.

Soon after inserting the disc into my player I removed it to thinking I had selected a U2 disc in error. No error had been made on my part.

The same vocals, the same maddening I feel like marching drum beat, the same simpleton bass lines, the same lack of substance on the guitar. Plain and simple, a ripoff of a commercially successful band from the past.

A Rush of Blood to the Head

I was given this album as a gift three years ago and while it was new to me I immediately noticed that the lead vocalist had no idea of how to break away from singing very "clunkily" in syllables...to every song!!!
I haven't read all the reviews to this album (would take days) but wonder if he annoys anyone else as much as he annoys me?

Excuse me my hereticism of view , but after listening to this 2 cds back to back for 2 days on good cosmic mind organic self i could be convince that this is the reencarnation of Pink Floyd . The overall music mind set is just that , incredible music for our times , from early Chicago , to King Crimson ( horns and all ) , with some Young Marble Giants in the way , the Smiths and the Buzzcocks ... Anyway , buy it , steal it , borrow it , estimulate yourself with good soul cosmic music ... Inmerse in the times we live , insane and tragic and lovely fearful and who could really care for me if not myself ...

These are better than the abysmal (imo based on disraeli gears and tea for the tillerman) "back to black" reissues.

both the capitol reissue of ok computer and of pet sounds that i bought today are dead quiet and neither suffer from obvious digitalis. they do not sound as if they were recorded using the cd as the source, which many people have felt about the b to b pressings.

the lead vocal on pet sounds is a tiny bit on the bright side (though it may simply be more revealing of whats there - and my system is extremely revealing and cuts no slack in this direction), but it's not brittle like tea ... Read More:

Music, like movies, tends to go into a lot of phases with many people latching onto a certain genre or artist deeming them the saviors that will rid the taste left in our mouth of the predecessors. With the drugs and excess and party-with-every-and-any-girl lyrics of the 80's metal bands, in comes the so-called "grunge" movement which was more introverted and coming from a place of hurt and angst. In comes Oasis during the so-called "Brit rock" movement which dealt with more uplifting matters like the love of rock and roll music. Sure it's derivative but who gives a you-know-what when it's a top record from top to bottom.

Nobody really actually enjoys listening to Radiohead. They just pretend to so that they appear to be hip or intelligent. I guess if a bunch of random noise put together to appear "deep" is your thing you should buy this album. If you have any taste stay far away. Thom Yorke is also the AntiChrist.

"22 dreams" by Paul Weller is a sprawling opus that sees him fleeting stylistically from Blues to Soul to Electronica to Jazz to even Tango, ensuring there is a little something for everyone. Due to its length (21 tracks clocking in at about 70 minutes) it does take a while to get into, but its ended up becoming my favourite Weller album.

The title track "22 dreams" and "Echoes round the sun" are both Blues-tinged rockers, while "All I wanna do (is be with you)" and "Have you made up your mind" fall into the Soul category. The instrumental "Song for Alice" is a Jazzy tribute to the late Alice Coltrane.

"Invisible" is a fragile sounding sparse piano ballad, and "Why walk when you can run" is an absolutely brilliant acoustic ballad (yearning vocals ... Read More:
