Many reviews on Amazon -- and yes, myself guilty -- tend to lean towards fan-mail. You keep a watch out for your favourite artists, buy their cd's as they are released and write a review tell the world how truly fantastic the artist and music are. And by inference, your own taste in music. So let me start by saying that I do have a weakness for Lizz Wright. Don't expect a cool unbiased review. Her earlier albums have been spinning and spinning on my cd-player. Not just because of her voice, her phrasing and tone that she combines so beautifully and effortlessly. "Loverly" is the fifth album by Jazz chanteuse Cassandra Wilson that I own. Its name is taken from the song "Wouldn't it be loverly" (from the musical "My fair lady" - an album which coincidentally I got on CD for the first time this week) which she covers here in a big band Jazz style.

"Loverly" is actually an album of covers, the lone original number being the heavily African accented "Arere" (thanks to Nigerian drummer Lekan Babalola, as well as Cassandra singing in Yoruba). The album has a rather loose, spontaneous feel which sounds great. Much like its predecessor "Thunderbird", it displays diverse musical hues in a subtle way.

My wife and I have been great fans of Steve Tyrell since his first CD and we congratulate him on another hit -- couldn't happen to a nicer guy, especially when you read the background to the making of this special album. Steve has skillfully taken Burt's timeless hits and blended them with his contemporary voice (along with a selection of other great artists) into a classy masterpiece. Great job, Steve!

I heard about this on Sunday Morning and they raved about Lizz so i thought I would try a CD.. I was pleasantly surprised how wonderful she sings. Lizz Wright has such a wonderful sound. MY ipod has LOTS of diffferent music (New and old, Country, pop, etc) and when a song of hers plays I put my ipod so I can hear all her songs I love it!
