Well this offering starts of strong but has a few slow moments particularly the ballads were hard to get into. I had been recommended this from Amazon although I really have not been following this group consistently. I am familiar with some of their popular tunes. I agree with the reviewer who stated more instruments/instrumentals would have made the CD more lively. Step Aside really got the joint of to a good start.

This is my first Four80East CD, but it definitely won't be my last... If you've read some of my other reviews, I've gotten somewhat bore of Smooth Jazz, well, it's probably more Smooth Jazz radio than anything else. So I wasn't expecting too much when I purchase this CD. Needless to say, I was pleasantly surprise listening to En Route. This album is definitely a toe-tappin', head-noddin', and in some cases, a rump-shakin' joint. To paraphrase the original Funkmaster himself, George Clinton, "if you like a little Doobie in your Funk" give this CD a try... So far my favorite track, 51 Division, is sizzlin'....

This is one of those CD's that you like right away and just seems to get better every time you hear it and appears to be listening for the first time. The beats are cool and easy but if you listen close enough,you realize how good each group is, outstanding musicians and since they're different arrangements from different groups, that's what makes it that much better.

Koop Islands

Speaking as a jazz/lounge musician, I think Koop produces some of the most well crafted, subtley infectious music in this idiom. Anyone who equates "Lounge" music with the 50's-60's will find that this style, like anything well done, is classic in that it knows no time period. Koop point the way with "Islands" and "Waltz". More power to them. Now, about their "agenda." When I first got "Waltz" in '03 I was slightly taken back by the cover featuring two guys (Koop I assume) in dresses. Oh well, I've seen more shocking images on Rock CD covers. Nevertheless, the image is, IMO, incongruous with the music and, to this straight male, vaguely uncomfortable. Maybe I missed the joke. Travelling Without Moving

I don't know how I missed this when it was first released but boy am I glad I stumbled into it. This album is looooooaded with groove from start to finish. The bass/drum teamwork is dirty, funky, pocket-syncopated heaven. The use of disco strings, latin accessory percussion, Rhodes pianos, etc works very well together without being kitschy or tacky. It sounds old and new at the same time. And, at the end of the day, who really cares 'when' it sounds like. To me it just sounds GOOD.

So groovy.
