I like all music, and this music is fresh! I heard an interview with the bandleader on PBS, and some cuts were played. The soloist's voice is truly addictive. Add this group to your collection, and you'll enjoy it.

Hiromi's Sonicbloom performed last May 3rd, during Rota dos Bons Ventos Festival at Faial isl., Azores. Along with some musics from her previous CDs, like Time Control, a few tracks from Beyond Standard were played, among them Caravan, etc. Then I just had to wait for June 10th to order my copy of this really fantastic cd. On stage Hiromi sometimes looks like a Kung-Fu fighter in bursts of energy that often end up on a delicate note. Her band doesn't deceive the genious piano player, nor the audience. Standards are standards, but they have been played, and will be, in many different ways and this is a very special one. Really suggested to music lovers and if Hiromi is in town, don't miss the show.

The calming chimes of ancient Tibet take you back to a time of simplicity, where there was clarity in simplicity. Just listening to the sounds of Tibetan wisdom transports you into another world, arguably a saner world - without traffic, machines, mechanisation. This simplicity is beautiful and magical at the same time. Highly recommended for people seeking quiet, or advanced meditators alike.

Phases Of The Moon: Traditional Chinese Music

I was invited by my son's school to give a presentation on Chinese culture this past Chinese New Year (Feb 08). For music, I chose this CD and "Classical Chinese Folk Music".
This is a great starter CD if you want to learn traditional Chinese music. The pieces are performed in the 50s and 60s by a Chinese Orchestra using traditional instruments. The modernized music structures made it much more enjoyable (ambient) than the traditional way of playing - using fewer instruments, heavily ladden with emotional edge, due to Chinese music's moral or historical contents. That would have been much harder to swallow.
Check out "Classical Chinese Folk Music" next, which follows closer to traditions, but still very enjoyable.

One of the best CDs I have.This CD reminds me of the morning prayer chants at my Boarding school in Rajghat.I never wanted to sing it when I was young.Now,I absolutely love it."Om poornamidah.." is my favourite.

Who knew surfer rock and 50's era Khmer lounge music would result in such an addictive union. "Dengue" is getting better all the time; I'd probably start with "Venus on Earth" rather than "Dragon House" but both are excellent.

When playing this CD in my pc, it is showing incorrect song titles
It is actually showing song titles for "King Khan Shahrukh 2006" The cover is also being incorrectly displayed.

How could the music industry make such a error?

All the music is fine.

Contemporary in its high production values with layering of varied instrumentation and electronic accents, fine sonics, back-up vocalists, strong beats, and very melodic tunes sung in Tibetan, Chinese, Sanskrit, and Sa Dingding's own invented language (Asian scat?), this album is not what you would expect to reach American shores from China, but Shang-Hai has always been progressive and inventive. From the beginning, the album captures our interest with exotica. It would make a great soundtrack; indeed, it reminds me of the music to the film "Himalaya".
