Sure, some of the songs are not their best work but after thinking I would never hear another new Verve song after the breakup I'm thrilled to have this CD! As is typically the case with the Verve, and after a few listenings to this CD free on AOL's beta music site, the songs grew on me and I couldn't wait to get the CD to listen to in the car. The more you listen to this collection of songs the more you will like them! Thank you Verve!
Now....if only Zeppelin would reunite and put out a new album (Jason Bonham on drums of course).....

This is a great cd! If you can catch the show, by all means go and see it! There is also another cd which has the other half of the songs from the show.

I saw this group on PBS tv and loved it. They are 5 soloists, but sing together in amazing fashion. I highly recommend this to anyone.

Motorhead-Motorizer ****1/2
Upon first listen Motorizer feels like just another Motorhead album. Yeah, a great motorhead album, well then again Motorhead never really made a bad album did they? Moving on...
As you give the album time it seems to grow better with each listen. As Lemmy's lyrics become more recognizable to you the songs seem better that usual. Lemmy really stepped up the lyrics for Motorizer; they are both very personal and intelligent. His bass playing is exception as well ('When The Eagle Screams') much better than usual. Philip Campbell shows his merit here as well. His Wah-Wah tone makes his guitar scream and his riffs are solid and his solos kill! Mikkey Dee proves once again that he just might be the very best ... "The Perfect Boy" is another really good one. I can hear a bit of "Strange Attraction" and "Mint Car" in this one and that's cool because those were among my favorites from Wild Mood Swings. Also hear a bit of "alt.end" in there on second listen. Sorry, I've listened to them so much the last 20 years I can't help but hear things that remind me of other songs I like. The b-side "Without You" is one of their best strummy, ballad-type songs. Robert really knocks it out of the park with some great soaring vocals. If you've ever severed any ties with any person, group, or institution this one strikes a chord. I've been really impressed with Robert's vocals and wordplay on all of the singles so far (and with the rest of the band's great work of course) and can't wait ... Read More:

something has been off for me with stereolab since marys death. i dont know why. i didnt know her, so it wasnt anything on a personal level. it was a certain charm, maybe?
after listening to this album multiple times, i do believe that the charm is back, there are still cerebral, challenging songs here, yes, but they are crisp, tight, short and amazing. yes, amazing. this is by FAR the most enjoyable stereolab release in years.
the strings, the hooks (all songs have at least one), the amazing sound, its all here. its all sterolab. this is a great album. i have been a fan for over a decade, and i do believe that this is the cd that i would recommend to beginners, and in time, might fall into my top choice myself. thanks, guys. love the cd.

Possibly the best TT album so far, A Piece Of What You Need is typically Teddy but with new layers. It's dark, light, funny and melancholic all at the same time. Highlights for me are the opening two tracks, which are opposite sides of the same coin. 'The Things I Do' expresses self-loathing (a fairly constant theme throughout Teddy's work), while the wickedly funny 'What's This?!!' sees him being surprised and bemused at being happy. The words and the music fit perfectly together, and it's all quite poetic... "One night away from the therapist's couch - ouch!" There's a hint of country and western in some songs - notably "Can't Sing Straight", which you can almost hear Johnny Cash singing.
A Piece of What You Need is a good introduction to Teddy Thompson's music, but ... Read More:
