Stylistically, this new Verve album carries on where "Urban Hymns" left off. Much like "Urban Hymns", the material here is clearly more song-oriented as opposed to the more jam-based, psychedelic phase of the "Storm In Heaven" LP era. I think newer Verve fans who first became aware of the band through songs like "Bittersweet Symphony" and "Lucky Man" (both on the Urban Hymns LP) will find much to be pleased with on this new album.
The first single from the album "Love Is Noise" has an uptempo groove with a catchy repeated "Ooh-Ooh, Ah-Ah" refrain that has a sing-a-long quality to it. "Valium Skies", "Rather Be", "I See Houses" and "Appalachian Springs" are nice string-laden ballads following the same formula of "Lucky Man" ... Read More:

Celtic Thunder: The Show
I saw this group on CPTV. I just fell in love with them. I listen to the CD on my way to work everyday. I just can't get enough of it. I put the video on when I'm working on my computer which is almost always. They are just great. What I like the most is that there is a story with each song - just beautiful. They all have beautiful voices. I want so much to see them in person in our area (Connecticut).

Carla Bruni's music isn't taken very seriously anymore, which is a pity because she is a fantastic musician first. In fact, I would rate her career in modelling a far, far second - because give this woman a guitar and tell her to sing and it WORKS. Her voice, a strong reed of an instrument, is a luscious thing to behold - capable of 'driving men insane' (as a French daily once said while reviewing her first CD), but she is also well aware of the limitations of her voice. She never chooses material she cannot sing or do justice to, and wonder of wonders, the woman plays the guitar on virtually every track here.
Benjamin Biolay as a musician on your record is a fine compliment indeed (he is perhaps the greatest living male French recording ... Read More:
I happened to view a part of their show on television one night and thought these men (and one young boy) were exceptionally wonderful! So I bought the DVD and have enjoyed it over and over. I think all of them are wonderful, especially that young man who still has braces on his teeth!

Things sometimes get put off for a reason. Lack of interest, better things to do, or just plain not worth the time or effort. This seems to be the result here. I will always support anything Peter Gabriel touches and my wife is an even bigger fan (she didn't like it either), but this pushes the bounds even for me. It is such a hodgepodge of varying styles that no flow is given to the work as a whole. There are maybe 2 or 3 tracks even worth a listen, Peter's and the haunting track by Sinead. Spend your money elsewhere.

Lemmy must have been into heavy doses of the Ramones while recording this album, because his love for the band is quite evident throughout "Motorizer". In fact there is a fast paced, "punk" rock vibe to many of the songs here in the "Goin' To Brazil" & "R.A.M.O.N.E.S" vein. "Rock Out" does exactly what it promises and then some. Mickey Dee's drumming propels the album from start to finish without pause (no slowed down ballads here). Dee is arguably the best drummer in rock/metal and he proves it here. And friggin' Phil, the man never ceases to amaze me; his playing just keeps getting better. Phil takes his own chops, blends in a bit of Chuck Berry, a dose of Thin Lizzy era Brian Robertson (Phil's wah wah pedal tone is killer on this album) and consequently ... Read More:

My oldest daughter is incarcerated right now in Nevada. We got her two Enya CDS and she said this one made her feel the freest she has been in the time she has been in prison. She was so grateful for this and said she may give it to her youngest sister when she gets home to share with her.

I have been eagerly anticipating the new Stereolab album for some time, intrigued by Tim Gane's tantalising account of the creative process that led to 'Chemical Chords'- of a batch of his own musical doodles from which the groop developed the final, fleshed out tracks in the studio. So yes, as one would expect from Stereolab, 'Chemical Chords' is a lushly orchestrated album (Sean O'Hagan's arrangements add wonderful texture, especially the strings on 'Cellulose Sinshine' and 'Self Portrait With Electric Brain'), but each track bears the succinct imprint of a singular idea perfectly realised, unlike previous albums where some tracks feel like two or three condensed into one. The synergy between the musical elements makes this another Stereolab album that will continue to reward repeated ... Read More:
