"Timeless", released in 2006, was a welcome return for Sergio Mendes. I hadn't really followed him much since his album a full ten years before that one titled "Oceano". He used an approach similar to the Oceano and "Brasileiro" albums of the 90's. That is, utilize the talents of some of the budding new talents of the time and put out a nice quality album. On Timeless, he produced the album with Will-I-Am of the black eyed peas, and had a similar approach but more hip-hop/R&B influenced, rather than contemporary as the older 90's albums. I think the key to enjoying this and "Timeless" is to take them as they are. A melding of different musical styles and cultures. It's not like his old music from circa' the 70's. I think some people might ... Read More:

Sergio Mendes & Brasil 66's hits are pretty much included in this CD. What a wonderful beat and what memories. I highly recommend this CD to anyone wanting a good selection of his early hits. I found all the ones I loved on this CD plus a couple of others that were a joy to discover.

I have this CD and a few others. Every now and then I like to check for new releases. What I would like to know is WHERE ARE THE TRACK SAMPLES???!! WHAT HAPPENED TO THEM?? I listen to songs before I decide to buy, so if you want to sell a CD, then put them back.

Want to know what the world was like in 1963, in San Francisco, on sunny afternoons, when all the windows were open on a garden from a small apartment high on the Ashbury Street Hill where Anne and Stan Rice lived and wrote? --- Before the Flower Children came. ---- Then listen to this classic album, the album that defined "jazz" for me more than bossa nova. It was an album that made me want to flee the foggy streets of San Francisco, put on khaki clothes and drift south. It took me well over twenty years to get to Brazil, and the tunes were no longer in my head. Don't know who Stan and Anne are? No surprise. --- They were young writers, dreamers and students. ---- Just wanted to make this review a little reflective of what those moments were ... Read More:

Review in Wall Street Journal, Oct 8, 2008
Antonio Carlos Jobim once asked Milton Nascimento to record a collection of his songs, a project that would have brought together Brazil's most revered composer and one of its best-known singers. Jobim, who was known as Tom to friends, died in 1994 before the project could proceed, and in a sense "Novas Bossas" (Blue Note) is Mr. Nascimento's fulfillment of his late friend's request. He recorded it with the Jobim Trio, which includes Jobim's son Paulo, a guitarist, and grandson Daniel, a pianist. The drummer is Paulo Braga, a member of Tom Jobim's band before the trio formed.
But the album is more than a Jobim tribute, Mr. Nascimento told me through a translator when I called his home in ... Read More:

I really enjoy listening to Wave. I find the sound relaxing and the songs enjoyable. I recently started listening to the famous Getz/Gilberto album and I wanted to pickup albums from some of the other artists featured on it, hence Wave. Good album and I would recommend it to anyone who liked Getz/Gilberto.

I like this disk. I saw one reviewer compare them to Blondie... OK, but I thought that they sounded more like No Doubt - fun party music.
This is supposed to capture their "live" electricity, and I look forward to them getting up to the Philly area some time.

Glad another reviewer pointed out "Seu" is the equivolent to "Mr.", and here I was thinking it was a pretty cool first name. DOH!
Overall, the "Studio Sessions" album a very pleasant breath of fresh air. It shares a similar tone to Nick Drake's "Pink Moon", which is also another outstanding acoustic album. Like many, I was enchanted by the Jorge scenes in "Life Aquatic", which compelled me to check out the soundtrack. Was very glad to see he has a seperate album.
"Changes" and "Quicksand" (never knew it was a Bowie song, as I thought it was a Dinosaur Jr. original the whole time) are my fave tracks, or well, of the ones not already on the original movie score. Jorge's version of "Rebel Rebel" is so sultry...dream-like, it makes me salivate ... Read More:

I bought this CD based on the reviews and it was everything everyone said it was. I have older children that are in college and want the CD because when they listen to it with their brother, it's so relaxing. If you want gentle background music to lull your child to sleep, this is it. If you want to destress with soothing music, this is it. Excellent.
