Very talented ex-mex pats conquering the acoustic world. Just an all around great album that compares to none. And please be sure not to describe this music as flamenco, ok? No waaayyyy! Enjoy..
Release Date September 16, 1997
This critically acclaimed album is a favorite for many reasons. The Buena Vista Social Club was a popular club in Havana that held dances during the 1940s and 50s. This 14-song album not only features many of the veteran musicians who performed at that club during the height of its popularity, but also includes Cuban musician Juan de Marcos González and American guitarist Ry Cooder (who produced the sessions). The album was recorded in six days, and resulted in a fascinating documentary of the same name by Wim Wenders (best known for one of my favorite films, Wings of Desire)). Musicians include Luis Barzaga on backing vocals, Orlando "Cachaito" López on double bass, Joachim Cooder on drums, Ry Cooder on guitar, Juan de Marcos González ... Read More:

I really enjoy listening to Wave. I find the sound relaxing and the songs enjoyable. I recently started listening to the famous Getz/Gilberto album and I wanted to pickup albums from some of the other artists featured on it, hence Wave. Good album and I would recommend it to anyone who liked Getz/Gilberto.

Great combo of Buena Vista Social Club latin vibe "duet" remakes of recent and older pop hits / combined with artists like Coldplay, U2, Jack Johnson, Maroon Five, Dido, Arctic Monkeys, latin stars too - Some dancing and listening.
Release Date June 08, 1999
Ibrahim Ferrer could sing the phone book and I would be enthralled. The man's voice was a treasure. This CD is not quite as good as Buena Vista Social Club, but almost nothing is. It's not as exciting as BVSC, but Ferrer is gone now, and any little phrase he sang is better than tons of other people's work.

This collaboration between the Los Panchos and Edyie Gorme (remember Steve and Edyie on the Carol Burnett show?) is NUMERO UNO. You don't need to speak or understand Spanish to enjoy the beautiful harmonies of these beautifully interpreted Latin standards. ¡Es fantástico!
Release Date September 09, 2003
This is a really good sampler for those who are introducing in Jazz world, the standards are popular and easy listening, as the Sonny Rollins Airgin version with some latino touch. Recommended.

Very good compilation. If you are a fan of Tito Puente or a fan of Latin Music, now better known as Salsa, you can't go wrong with this two, 40 track CD set. Sony/Legacy has done a good job with their Essential series. I'm a fan of 'the old school' Latin Music, such as Tito Rodriguez, Joe Cuba, Willie Colon, etc. and not so much into the experimentation Tito Puente did with main street jazz or Latin Jazz. This compilation has some of that but not enough to turn me against it. It has a good balance of all that Tito did throughout his long and distinguished career. A good mix of all instrumental, vocals, mambos and Jazz/Latin Jazz. And who can complain when you have the original "Oye Como Va", and "Ran Kan Kan". If you are a lover of Latin Music ... Read More:

I had been looking for this recording for years. I had purchased this back in 1974 on vinyl and wore it out. Since then it didn't seem to be available. Thankfully it is now via these mp3 downloads.
The arrangements are fiery, tight, complex as are the rhythms.
"Mambo Diablo" one of the Puente mainstay tunes is done here with a jazz muscular horn arrangement at medium tempo. It features Tito on vibes and solid soprano sax work. with a solid brass wall on the chorus. If you like Stan Kenton/Maynard Ferguson style arrangements you'll love this one.
"Ah Ah" - is a nice fashioned cha-cha, featuring punctuating brass and coro. It has a good solid groove.
"Last Tango" is a a nice crossover piece ... Read More:
