Received the cd in excellent condition and on time. I attended several
Belafonte concerts at the Greek Theater in Los Angeles' Griffith Park. Enjoyed them all. I would still like to get a CD one of his many performances at The Greek Theater.

I am a Canadian living and working in Sherman TX,I miss my Soca and this year I will be missing my Caribana Jump Up in Toronto Aug 2,but this CD makes me feeling like I am there.I just found out I am a "Soca Junkie" too! Buy this CD and feel the Scoa Fever.Hey what has happened to Byron Lee's annual Soca CD?

Downgraded from the 5 star a true copy would have gotten. I had bought the CD of this years ago to "protect" my vinyl copy. The original is heads and shoulders above the CD. In part because the missing songs are so rare, and the missing chatter was part of what made this recording so unique. The story is Carnegie Hall was in danger of closing. The original live recording was of a concert to save it. It was so successful, the Hall was kept open, and he returned the next year for another recorded concert "Return to Carnegie Hall". The last song on the CD is nowhere to be found on my original vinyl. Did they just realize they had to fill something in for the butchering they did to the master? How can a presumed greatest hits (essential collection) end up with two of Harry's biggest and most famous
songs being included as LIVE versions? What has happen with bona fide song selections? The studio versions
are what everyone heard in the 1950's and remember best (by ear). Apparently, RCA's CD producers for older
artists have no idea what they are doing. I guess it'll get even worse as we get older and the producers get younger. A good "essential collection" can only be GOOD if it passes the "by ear" test. If you were not around
in the 50s listening to the originals you have no idea which track to put on the CDs. RCA has entered this stage.
And if Harry really did select these songs he should KNOW better!!! I would not have this in my collection ... Read More:

OK. I just wrote a review for for the 1 disc package without the steel drum cd. I realized this is the cd I actually bought, so I'm sticking my nose in here too.
Cheat? It's a 10 dollar CD set.
I didn't like the steel drum cd. I stuck it in the microwave. BUT I would pay so much more for the other CD that it doesn't even matter. It's synthy and cheesy and so many things that I generally have nothing but distaste for, and I love it. I've downloaded so many versions of Guantanamera by the Sandpipers and Jose Feliciano, etc... that can't even touch this one. Barbados is great. These faceless singers channel the hits with more soul than you'd think possible for anybody singing over what sounds like a synth bass and drums-in-a-box.

Very similar to Margaritaville Cafe's "Late Night Gumbo," this disc is produced by same people that bring you a new Jimmy Buffett record every year. And ain't that great ?? If you love Buffett, you'll like this. There is a growing number of Buffett tributes and knock-offs out there. Some are pretty cheesy, but this is one works for me.
