Lea DeLaria is fabulous. An incredible performer with an enormous amount of talent, how she does it is anyone's guess. Personally, I think she's got a big black woman hidden underneath that peachy skin, because I've no idea how a 50-year old white girl could have so much soul and rhythm.
One of the most underrated jazz singers of our time, DeLaria's newest album, The Live Smoke Sessions, is also one of her most spirited. And while I plan at least one Sunday morning each month around Double Standards, her 2005 studio album, I found myself so impressed by her talent for singing, scatting, and ability to engage a clearly enthralled audience, that this live recording might just take the place of DS in my official Sunday morning pot ... I wish Delaria would put out more albums like this one. Her voice and interpretation of the songs on the album are really great and withstand lots of repeat plays. Highly recommended. Many of the cuts are worth 5 stars, but I didn't really like all of her song choices, so that's why I rated the album 4 stars.
Release Date July 26, 1994
I saw these guys perform live about 10 years ago in college live and they were amazing. It's sad to listen to the CD after the death of the lead singer when I was able to see him in person perform "Everything Possible". What a powerful and emotional song. Wish I knew what the group was up to now.
Release Date December 06, 2005
This is so funny. I feel like she's talking about me and my husband. I have seen her live and was wondering how her humor would translate without her amazing expressions and body language, but I don't think I could have laughed any louder. Can't wait for the next one!!!
Release Date March 18, 1997
Everyone's bound to have quibbles with a collection such as this one. I would much prefer to have Mabel Mercer's version of "Ballad of the Sad Young Men," for instance (although Rod McKuen's is lovely), and I regret the absence of certain gay "standards" such as Mott the Hoople's "All the Young Dudes" and Dusty Springfield's "Quiet, Please, There's a Lady on Stage." But it's all fun, not mention educational, and I'm grateful to Marshall Blonstein and Richard Oliver for a magnificent effort, which is destined to take its place next to classics of the literature such as William J. Mann's "Behind the Screen" and "The Gay and Lesbian Literary Heritage"--not to mention the collected works of Barbara Streisand! To underscore their sense of history, the producers ... Read More:

Had totally forgotten about this mid-'90's all-dyke punkcore band. I give this disc three stars because it sounded better than I remember it. Seems to me like this five piece was on the scene for a year and then you never heard anything about them again. Tunes here that sort of did it for me were "Butch In The Streets", "Romeo And Julio". "Femme Bitch Slap" (love that song title) and "Flippersnapper". Line-up: Lynn Breedlove-vocals, Leslie Mah and Lyn Flipper-guitars, Lynn Payne-bass & vocals and Slade-piano & drums. Might possibly appeal to fans of Pansy Division, Fifth Column and Rubber City Rebels.

Back in 1996 I purchased this album, and for the first time i heard this CD became immediately in one of my favorites punk albums. Don't Back Down is so good from beginning to end that you don't have to skip any song, the Asian Man version sense this and join a couple of the songs in the album (bad idea), the mixing it's also not as good as the first issue, Punk Rock Girls one of my favorite songs in the album sounds slightly different with more emphasis on the organ sound. In the positive of this re-issue i can say that Includes 3 more songs from their EP Bubble Gum Dreams currently out of print. If you want to replace this album in your collection (like me) buy the Lookout! RecordsDon't Back Down

I was first introduced to Lea Delaria ot Milwaukee's PrideFest '97, where she performed. My boyfriend bought "Box Lunch", and we simply rolled with laughter. This is a great comedy CD with great laughs. Sometimes, us gay and lesbian folks need to lighten up a bit-- and DeLaria proves it. You won't be dissappointed.
Release Date February 07, 1997
I heard Suzanne once on HBO comedy hour recently and LOVED her!! I've never heard a les woman who just kept it real regardless of what topic. After seeing & hearing her I plan to purchase every cd/book she's ever done. She's quite talented and needs way more exposure.

There's a genuine caring-warmth to Ms Kate's humor that has always made it an art that communicates with love and respect for the audience. I love how she points out the distinction between GOT to be gay and GET to be gay--it's the distinction between HAVING to be a person and GETTING to be a person and it applies to everyone everywhere--it's the thing the nazi's of every stamp (here and now, there and then) hate, fear and deny, and a lot of people go along with them out of fear and failure to BE a person. Thank you Ms Kate for your inspiration. Oh, and yes it's GREAT to have this Birchmere gig on cd: you can put it on and wash the dishes, fold the laundry...
