Too me probaly the greatest punk album thats ever been made now and than. The Sex Pistols were just one of those bands you dont come by too often and still dont come by bands like The Ramones and The Clash were punk too but The Sex Pistols took it a step further and were even arrested were playing the song, "God Save The Queen", in front of the queen of england. From the opening track, "Holidays in the Sun", to the ending track, "EMI", the album is non stop 3 minute fast punk songs and probaly the best song on the whole album, "Anarchy In The UK". Unfortunatly though this is the only studio Sex Pistols album that has ever been made partly due to the fact of tensions between the band and the death of the bands bass player Sid Vicious but The Sex ... For me The Clash was Combat Rock, the album they released in early 80's (81?) that bring me back to my youth. A couples of years ago I read in every list of the best rock bands ever that The Clash were among the top 20 and London Calling was one of the best 10 albums ever. So I began to look for more music from the group. Discovering this collection and the early recordings of the group. I have to say That I'm impressed. From the early really punk recordings like White Riot, through their evolution to post punk and pop singles like Rock The Casbah, or Should I stay or Should I go, The Clash demonstrate that They were not just THE punk group but wise composers and instrumentalists not mentioning the message of rebellion and anger about the matters of those days. ... This is a killer DVD even tho most of it already available. The naration/no-naration option is very welcome. The naration is short and un-abtrusive. If you have 1 CLASH dvd this - should be it. If you have 1 music dvd - this should be it. If you 1 dvd - this should be it.

While Combat Rock would give the Clash the band its greatest success, it is also the most inconsistent release that the original lineup recorded. Having said that, it's still a decent album. It is best known for their two most popular songs, "Rock the Casbah" and "Should I Stay or Should I Go." These songs were all over the radio in 1982-1983 and you still hear them quite often. Those tunes are the heart of the album's first side where everything works. The excellent "Know Your Rights" finds the band recalling the focused anger of their debut while "Car Jamming" is just as strong both lyrically and musically with its tribal beat. I bought the original 3 LP version of Sandinista in late 1980 / early 1981, not long after it came out. I'd never heard anything by the Clash and had only the vaguest idea of what punk was all about, but I'd been reading about how great this group was supposed to be, so I thought I'd check this album out. After all, it barely cost more than a single LP, so I figured that, if nothing else, their hearts must be in the right place.

To be perfectly honest, I didn't know what to make of this when I first listened to it. As I recall, my first reaction was, "This is punk???" I couldn't believe what I was hearing. Music writers in 1977 hailed the appearance of this record as the introduction of a major new songwriting talent. Indeed, EC demonstrates here an astonishingly precocious ability to combine sophistication and popular sensibility with both personal ("Alison") and sociological ("Less than Zero") themes.

Of course the musicianship is considered the primary flaw of the album (it's not worth getting bent out of shape over 'remastering' - I've heard these songs for thirty years and they have always sounded weak and tinny in any format).
