Though ecstatic upon the reformation of The Verve, I must say I am slightly disappointed at the permeation of the commercial sound Richard Ashcroft adopted while he was on his own.
All in all the album is a pleasant and slightly melancholic escape.

**i'm a 32 yr old guy who used to listen to Stone Roses, Lush, Smiths, REM, etc. and i was thinking this might be like some of that stuff.. it wasn't..
**Lightness, title and registration and We Looked Like Giants are the only decent songs on this CD.. and Giants is screwed up at the end with that dumb static thing that they did on it.. Lightness is the best song by far- it gives me chills listening to it.. very very good.. but again, it's a short song so as much as you like it it only last 2 mins..
**I don't know how anyone could give this CD 4 or 5 stars.. it is honestly depressing.. Transatlanticism, the song, has some good points to it but it is overwhelmingly sappy and slow.
This band is loaded i'm sure.. i'd be curious if there ... Read More:

This may be, along with possibly David Bowie's "Station to Station" and Neil Young's "Tonight's the Night," the most terrifying masterpiece I have ever had the pleasure of being confronted with. Yes, what the fans say is true in my opinion, that this is a densely-layered, coherent thought layed out among eleven shorter (though no lesser) ones; and, to be accurate I am indeed a fan myself. Although I don't pretend to have heard all the incarnations "popular" music over the past 30 years, I do know this: Loveless, like any earnest and accurate expression of existence, is no less meaningless today than it was seventeen years ago. The blend of a prevailing major key alongside an urban sound density would make one assume that within this album there should ... Read More:

Not only is the movie one of my faves but so is the soundtrack. I have an addiction to buying soundtracks and this one tops the list of my many. Its so good I'm using a few of the tracks for my wedding.
Release Date December 29, 1990
This is fuzzy goodness that is hard to top. What really works for me is how they use brooding pop melodies without confining themselves to boring pop structure. Anyone can tell each member is musically refined, but they are tasteful to the point of letting listeners know they have good chops but are more concerned with structure, dynamics, and mood. That kind of awareness is very much appreciated. Very highly recommended album.

So I love "Loveless" and so decided to add some more MBV to my collection. And seeing that this album got the same ratings as "Loveless" I went for it - sadly, without listening to the preview clips. Alas, I found this album to be, frankly, an absolute MESS! None of the semi-melodious, invitingly-droning, enveloping, soundscapeness that makes me fond of "Loveless". Very hard to listen to, not very approachable for an average music appreciator. My face was kinda scrunched up in confusion as I tried my best to listen to every track but ended up skip forward through them all within a mere 20 minutes and started wondering how much I'm gonna get for it at the used CD store. Yikes. I ended up getting cold feet on the other 2 MBV cd's I ordered along with it and ... Read More:

The Verve was a British band of the 1990's who have since broken up. On this CD we have 14 of the best Verve songs from their era of existence 1992-98. I really like this album and am awarding it 4.5 stars. I first heard of this band in June 1997 when staying in London, when their justly-famous and classic song Bittersweet Symphony made the UK top 5 . Even better was the achingly-beautiful yet despairing lament The Drugs Don't Work, which reached #1 on the UK chart in September 1997. I was working as a locum doctor in a psychiatric clinic at the time in Birmingham, England, and could really relate to the heartfelt pain that this song evokes, yet it has one of the most beautiful of melodies. Third song Lucky Man was also fantastic, as was the fourth song: Sonnet. All ... Read More:

Garbage's self-titled debut is a must have for anyone who likes anything from alternative rock to goth or emo. It's really a raw album that is shocking and scarily understandable. This record I fell in love with Garbage 13 years ago and I remain a faithful fan (I even have a tattoo resembling the cover of this very album!). To truly appreciate the band you must look behind the scenes and learn about them; I suggest through their 'Absolute Garbage' dvd and get to know the band. Thanks, Aaron.

If you're at all curious about the Stone Roses and their refreshing brand of britpop, I say go for it. Their 1989 debut is a really worthwhile record, though I must admit it took me longer than I thought to get into it. It really conjures up a certain time and a certain place, and yet its pretty timeless. Personally, it takes me both to the grey streets of cities like Manchester and to the wide English countryside (which I always imagine, listening to this, with stray hay floating through the air).
I've heard this band being called psychedelic. Though they add a couple of minor artsy touches reminiscent of psychedelia (backwards guitar in "Don't Stop", flanged guitar in "Bye Bye Badman", etc), I wouldn't really call them that. They're just catchy English rock songs, ... Read More:
