Sure, some of the songs are not their best work but after thinking I would never hear another new Verve song after the breakup I'm thrilled to have this CD! As is typically the case with the Verve, and after a few listenings to this CD free on AOL's beta music site, the songs grew on me and I couldn't wait to get the CD to listen to in the car. The more you listen to this collection of songs the more you will like them! Thank you Verve!
Now....if only Zeppelin would reunite and put out a new album (Jason Bonham on drums of course).....

As any fan of Sigur Ros knows, they're fantastically strange. And anyone who does not like them would say the same, only changing that they're too strange, and that they're being different for the sake of being different. It's easy enough to say that the lyrical approach is pretentious; Sigur Ros sing in a Norwegian jibberish, encouraging their fans to make up their own words. No album better expresses their artsy tactfulness (or lack thereof, as some may say) than 2002's ( ), which had no titles, no lyrics, no acknowledgements, no nothing. The cover simply had the parenthesis and the band's name, and beyond that it was a mystery.

For someone who says he's going to be bigger then U2 this album is by far has one of the worst songs ever written. That belongs to the song Yellow. Not only is it a pointless song it's one of the worst songs in history. One reason it was because it was so overplayed.
The other reason is because Chris Martin sounds like a prepubescent little girl whining at mom for not buying her those thong panties at Victoria Secrets. Not only that he fails miserably at his attempt to be better then U2. In fact most of his other albums sound the same with that whininess. The only good song that Coldplay has come out with is Clocks. Every other song is horrible. The only reason why he even is able to sell a cd is because some women think he's hot. I've had this album for a couple weeks now, and I can't stop listening to it. I'm finding that it has a lot more staying power for me than most albums seem to, due in large part to the narrative strain that runs through it as much as the genre-blending music itself. Obviously everyone who listens to an album like this will have a somewhat different response to it, but here are some my initial impressions of it:

The first song plays like a mission statement for the album, offering the fairly typical secularist ethical perspective that what some call "evil urges" are really perfectly natural and simply "a part of the human way", that "ain't evil if (they) ain't hurting anybody". They have a folksy sound and they know how to make you want to listen. Very good music. They're not the Beatles, but then who is. It's well worth the money.

I recently watched their Transatlanticism tour "Drive Well Sleep Carefully" on HBO and loved the songs. Normally I don't purchase an entire album unless I'm familiar with the artist and their music. So, I was pleasantly surprised by this purchase because it is a very good album. Other than just liking the sound of the band, I also enjoyed the enthusiasm that is evident when listening to their songs, like they really love what they're doing. I'm not good at giving reviews, I just know what I like, and I definitely like this album. I will probably end up buying all of their albums.

This may be, along with possibly David Bowie's "Station to Station" and Neil Young's "Tonight's the Night," the most terrifying masterpiece I have ever had the pleasure of being confronted with. Yes, what the fans say is true in my opinion, that this is a densely-layered, coherent thought layed out among eleven shorter (though no lesser) ones; and, to be accurate I am indeed a fan myself. Been desperately shopping around for new music for quite a while, since I got a new car, and needed to update the music I housed in there. This album is perfect. Heard them on Pandora Radio as a recommendation for people who like Placebo and the Smashing Pumpkins. And so it is. Bought it immediately as my first Amazon digital download, because I couldn't wait to run out to the store and buy the physical copy. So now all I need to do is buy a blank cd to burn it on, and bring it along with me on all my drives. Hurrah for finding great new music.
