Andrew Bird substantiates his musical evolution with the release of the graceful "Armchair Apocrypha". Mystical, almost cabbalistic at times, the album feels foreign but familiar, in a intriguing sort of way . What makes it all ironic is that "Armchairs" showcases some of the most accessible music Bird has released to date. Full of the "indie-rock" spirit, the songs are mostly upbeat and stimulating. The beautifully moody "Simple X" further animates the collaboration with Minneapolis beat miner Martin "Dosh". Tracks like "Plasticities and "Fiery Crash" will endure their course in your head long after the listening session is over. But it's the subtle brilliance of tracks like "Armchairs" and "Yawny At The Apocalypse" that fully materialize ... Read More:

I can ount on my left hand the number of CDs I have heard which are enjoyable from start to finish. This song is full of fun, catchy numbers. From the more famous ("You and Me and the Bottle Makes Three") to the unusual ("Mambo Swing") this CD keeps the listener entertained and does not fall into the trap of working so hard to find a "sound" that all of the songs sound too similar. The range is provided here, and you should give it a try.

What a great album. Brian and the Band really get hot on this one. This is like a Rockabilly Big Band combo which really works. Highly recommended to anyone who loves a good time and the best guitar sound around.

Every track on this disc is as much fun to listen to as it obviously was for the BSO to perform. "Sabre Dance" is utterly scorching, and the lyrics for "Honey Man" and "One More Night With You" are fun and witty. It all swings, but the particular standout for me is "For Lisa," Beethoven's "Fur Elise" turned into a sweet tribute to the Quintette du Hot Club de France.

Now, part of my problem with this one is that I didn't do a good review of the music before I bought the CD. I usually do, but once in awhile I get a crazy hair and buy from a group that I have listened to before, and liked. I did that with this one, and found myself greatly dissapointed. Now, after reading reviews on here, I would still be greatly dissapointed with this CD.
Also, I don't own, nor have I heard the second album. I do have the first, and listen to it quite often. It was fresh, original, and had lots of energy. This CD didn't deliver on any of it.
There was a high content of New Orleans sound in there, which I am not a fan of to begin with, and it just made everything sound bland and tasteless. I listened to it ... Read More:
