If you like folk music you will be enthralled by this grassroots genius. The recordings are little rough since they were done with rudimentary equipment in his house up in the hotlands of Guerrero, and his singing is far from impeccable. But despite that, his quality & genius on the violin are unmistakable

The only reason I gave this album 4 stars instead of 5 is because this album is only exceeded by Ibrahim Ferrer's self-titled first album with the Buena Vista Social Club. If I would not have had his self-titled album first, I would give this album 5 stars. Ibrahim Ferrer is one of the true stars of the Buena Vista Social Club. His silken voice can utterly transport you to a tropical paradise. That he did not make his first album until age 72 is quite amazing; but, his voice at age 72 is even more amazing! If you like Latin music, anything by Ibrahim Ferrer is a MUST HAVE!

If I would not have had his self-titled album first, I would give this album 5 stars. Ibrahim Ferrer is one of the true stars of the Buena Vista Social Club. His silken voice can utterly transport you to a tropical paradise. That he did not make his first album until age 72 is quite amazing; but, his voice at age 72 is even more amazing! Recently I had the opportunity to take a few of my "illegal immigrant" friends on a road trip to Vegas. This CD, "Pa' Mis Valis de Tierra Caliente", and Patsy Cline's Greatest Hits were only two CD's we thought to bring with us, so during the 7 hour drive I heard this CD over, and over, and over again. I'm not a huge fan of "Norteño" style music, as which La Nobleza de A. more or less qualifies, I much prefer Cumbia rhythms. To me, one Norteño ballad (corrido) sounds very much like the last, and the one before that, and the one before that... etc. And I'm sure that to latino listeners, alot of American pop music is one of a muchness as well.
