Sounding like a concert, The Dropkick Murphys power through another mix of new and traditional Celtic flavored tunes. The emphasis here is on the personal as tales of triumph and courage are the mainstays; all pulled off with the Murphys typical bravado. Particularly clever is "Wicked Sensitive Crew" that has some fun with the whole idea of this punk band becoming "touchy-feely." It's nice to hear the band actually sing on songs like "The Burden"and Eric Bogle's beautiful "The Green Fields of France." because occasionally all the yelling can become grating, but you can't deny the energy. I've been listening to The Offspring all my life. Ever since Smash, I have been a fan. While Conspiracy Of One and Splinter were decent, they weren't quite up to par with the Offspring I had come to know. This marks a major return to themselves. With songs like "Trust In You" and "Hammerhead" harkening back to the raw days of Ixnay and Smash, and "You're Gonna Go Far, Kid" and "Stuff Is Messed Up" sounding like the more playful album Americana, the album still shows progress in a new direction. "Half-Truism", "Nothingtown", and "Takes Me Nowhere" showing a newer, cleaner, sound. "Let's Hear It For Rock Bottom" shows the influence of the ska-punk band, The Police, in The Offspring.

I'm seldom moved to offer reviews since I will only do so when I have unusually high praise to offer. In this case, I really do. The Gaslight Anthem is a terrific band, and this is one of the very best albums I've heard in the last five years.

It's all here; the song writing and the musicianship are top notch, the production is exciting, and the music ... well, there are lots of obvious influences here - The Clash, Springsteen, Lou Reed, Tom Petty - but the result is an instant classic filled with rhapsodic passion, edgy toughness, and rock poetry. Really, you can ride this one all over town. It really doesn't get better.

They should be stars - they're already my heroes.

I have heard all the songs on Insomniac and Dookie and loved them.When I got this I was expecting kind of the same music but got totaly different and I like it.They kinda got away from their punk roots but that's fine by me.I love all the songs on here.The only song that I could live without was Rock and Roll Girlfriend segment on Homecoming.My personal favorite song on the album was either Holiday or Saint Jimmy.The lyrics are sometimes hard to understand because of his accent but you can always go on google to see what they are.The guitar,drum,and backup singers all are very talented and do a fantastic job.Recommended to any Green Day fan.

You can tell these guys actually know what they're doing in their music. I love how in their 4th song they find use for a tritone and it actually sounds awesome. I don't own their first cd cause it always seemed like it was just the "popular" kind of music, but my friend showed me this cd and I bought it the next day. The closest band I could probably relate this to is the Beatles, but it's all original music! I listen to all types of music except country and I've been listening to this cd a lot!

I just love this cd! i am new to Christian music and just started listening to it on the radio. i wanted to get some of my own and i know almost every song on this cd! this is a great CD and very inspirational! i find myself singing these songs while i am running down the road! very upbeat and wonderful! this was a great purchase!

Everytime I listen to this album it takes me back to my high school days. I recommend this to anyone who was a teenager in the mid to late 90s. If you enjoy this alum, I also recommend buying the music video collection dvd.

In this album FM has reached musical high with "tight instrumentals" and good lyrics that escape the stereo type of Irish music or drinking music. Dave still has the ability to deliver heartfelt meaning-full lyrics. I would not label their music as punk, but as some sort of rock with flavor, comparable to a cold pint o' Guinness. Which I would drink over the mainstream "Bud" rock. Like Amazon said, any band that is great live and in studio, transcends today's popular rock bands which includes those who go for the glammy emo/goth look, you all know the ones I'm talking about. No "traditional rock lyrics" here. This band has it and it shows with this album. FM FTW

They are Feisty, have a Zest for life and have blended different kinds of music into one big original sound. Their lyrics are not too shabby, not shabby at all. Have to say that I am very happy knowing this band and own two of their albums, this one and I forgot the name for the one they released after. Both very good purchases. They are original and that counts for a lot of my respect. When they get going is a brilliant display of talent. These guys are the real deal, worth every dollar. Highly entertaining and their message is one that screams: Enjoy Life, Enjoy Music and it will all work out for the better. 4 shinning stars for Gogol Bordello /Gypsy Punks Underdog World Strike! Hot Band!
