I second most reviews about this famous and important live recording by Bowie & Spiders.
Just a note: Some Bowie talking between songs are cut out, compared to the Golden Years release some years ago. Compare for instance the intro to "Andy Warhol".

The Very Best of the Doors takes you back into time, time when my Brother had a Super sport car, and lot's of dates. When I was Six years old and i would hang out with him while he worked on his car and we would listen to the Doors' When the Song Gloria would play we sing it out loud, and move to the beat. The Very Best of the Doors is by far the best, I now let my son (17)listen to it. The melody intertwine with two generations together. I with the old school records, and his i-pod tactics, but its still all the same music; rockin' 'n rolling till we die!!!

I listen to "Starman", then I listen to it again, then I get addicted to that song, then I can't stop listening to it. I will listen to it 10 or 15 times in a row. "Starman" is indeed waiting in the sky, I believe.

This album narrowly edge Loaded as VU's finest album? Why? Nico. Her haunting vocal are so different from Reed's but they compliment each other so well. The songs are experimental enough that it's interesting but not too experimental that it's unlistenable.

When I went to the music store and bought this cd, i was excited to hear the sound that everybody was in love with for 40 years. I threw it in my cd player and liked it but thought it sounded a little poppy and not really like the other psychedelic rock bands i had heard. As always i opened up the cd case and pulled out the artwork and the first words i read were "This is not the cd that has been around for 40 years." I kinda freaked out because automatically i labeled the cd i had just bought as junk. So I read a little bit more and realized that this is how the doors were "Supposed to sound." I mean it did sound alright, but if everyone fell in love with a different sound, maybe its not how "the doors" were supposed to sound. Being that it was my first doors cd ... Read More:

Hunky Dory was Bowie's last album as an aspirant, just before he found fame with Ziggy Stardust. It's a fascinating work on many levels that display lyrical depth, vivid imagery, wit and great musical variety, from the music hall pop of Changes through the sixties pop of Oh You Pretty Things to the cinematic lyricism of Life On Mars, a soaring masterpiece. Another of my favorites is Fill Your Heart, a quirky number with his somersaulting voice over lively piano and cheeky sax. Elements of the folkie singer/songwriter are evident on numbers like Song For Bob Dylan while The Supermen reminds me of his later science fiction work like Diamond Dogs. Bowie also salutes Lou Reed and Andy Warhol here, in fact the whole album makes references to his musical influences. Hunky Dory ... Read More:

It's difficult for me to speculate how many hundreds of times I've played this double CD set but I'll just say "often, for many years". "The Best of The Doors" represents the very essence of Classic Rock music of the turbulent 60s.
The Doors generated a unique, incredibly palatable sound, apart from all others. While this caveat probably exuded from "theater" as much as it did from musical innovation, the band's keyboard player, Ray Manzarek, was clearly as responsible for the brilliance of these compositions as was Jim Morrison himself.
Here's the lineup of these great old rock tunes:
CD No. 1
Break on Through
Light My Fire (7:05 version)
The Crystal Ship
People Are Strange
Strange Days

David Bowie has had various watershed albums, I think 'Low' is one of them. It has to be said that at the time of release it was not received as well as previous works - his label being disinterested in sufficiently marketing it must have definitely contributed to the situation, forcing him to change contracts. It was a difficult period for Bowie, living a year in LA, alienated, troubled with drugs. 'Low' is a powerful result of that mid 70's era finding Bowie as always, willing to experiment with new ideas, to twist the expected. Together with Brian Eno he produced a David Bowie masterpiece which I for one still find exasperating considering the period it was done in and its context amongst other contemporaneous music being produced and retailed by major artists and labels. It still ... Read More:
