I must say, at first I wasn't interested, but that quickly changed after my daughter feel in love with the movie. I had to set the VHS player on REPEAT. It played in her bedroom all day. That is the only Barney Tape that she sat in her Dora chair (without a care in the world) and watch when she was a year old. And she really watched it throughout the day.
So I give this movie a SEE HOW YOUR CHILD WOULD RECEIVE IT MOVIE. just my opinion. (P.S. I have no idea where her VHS of Barney is, so I'm buying it again now: (TGFA.COM) )

This CD is volume 1 of a two-volume set (each sold separately -- volume 2 is for Yom Kippur). It was originally produced for Public Radio International in 1995, and not only features the voices of Western Wind Ensemble & Chorus, but also has guest cantors Alberto Mizrachi, Faith Steinsnyder Guerney, Jacob ben Zion Mendelson, and Charles Osborne. It's narrated by Leonard Nimoy, who is best known for playing Spock on Star Trek, but who also has a deep and abiding love for his Jewish heritage, which shines through in this performance. Together, this gathering of male and female voices is a feast for the soul.
Unlike many Jewish holiday albums which come across as mere concerts, this one has the feel of a genuine Rosh Hashanah ... Read More:

Anyone familiar with the torturous history of Jews struggling in a Gentile world will find many of the slow and sad notes reminescent of their tearful plight. These composers are all top notch and the music is wonderful to have playing lightly in the house as you go about your business. I really enjoy this purchase.

I know the soprano Mary Ellen Callahan who sings in the W.W. Chorus with the cantors-- she has a voice straight from heaven, and it comes through in the few solos she has. From the cantors, Mizrachi and Gurney win the prize, but all the cantors have soul-stirring voices. If you are looking for ancient-sounding exotica, however, be aware that most of the arrangements on this CD are 19th century ones and thus may sound a little "churchy." Nevertheless, there is endless beauty on this CD. The only bad thing, in my opinion, is Leonard Nimoy's incredibly annoying interruption of every other song with Rabbi Skolnik's commentary-- that commentary should be in the program notes, not the CD! But if you just want to listen to the music, program your stereo ... Read More:

I think that Gutherie's "HAPPY JOYOUS HANUKKAH" CD is great, especially for children. The songs are surely joyous and wonderful to listen to. My only complaint were the addition of 4 pieces ("Gilad and Ziv's Sibra", "Latke Flip-Flop", "Groovy"s Freyekhs", and "Spin Dreydl Spin") that were not written by Gutherie and made no sense for this project.
Still, I would highly recommend this CD>

This is the Best Hanukkah CD I have ever heard but this CD is for people really enjoy a nontraditonal rendition of tradition Hanukkah music. Highy Highy recommended .
Release Date October 25, 2005
What a gem! The songs are funny and catchy, and they do a great job reflecting modern Jewish life in America. It's only November, and already I find myself singing "Goyim Friends" (my favorite track) and "Latke Klan." Both the kids and adults in my family love it, and we play it over and over. It's my favorite Hanukkah gift (except for families with young children -- I give them the fabulous Golden Dreydl: Klezmer Nutcracker for Chanukah). There are plenty of good klezmer Hanukkah albums, and some that are jazzy or swing, but this is the only one that truly rocks.

It's hard to compete with Johnny Mathis or Andy Williams or George Winston for December music if you are Jewish. This is a great album.
It swings in a "big-band" style, with the imperfect but pleasing voice of Kenny Ellis who puts heart and adulthood into Chanukah songs that are too often considered children's songs. If you celebrate Chanukah, are tired of the old standbys for December holiday music, or want to put some coolness and swing into your Jewish music collection, give this album a listen. Highly recommended.

Steve Bell is a Canadian songwriter/singer. I would label this a folk/blues type album. This CD has awesome lyrics and the instruments are very awesome. Great songs in "wings of an Eagle" (probably my favorite song of his) "Burning Ember" and "Drumheller Circle" (a great instrumental). He has some very worshipful songs that have very powerful lyrics that are sung to God.
