Forget all of this band's studio albums, this is the real deal. Like many blues bands Indigenous home is on the stage and their studio albums don't seem to capture just what they are capable of in a live setting. I've had the pleasure of seeing Indigenous live twice and they are well worth the price of admission if they ever come to your town. This album was recorded live in the studio in front of a small audience and does a very good job of capturing the band's live sound. Guitarist Mato Manji is the star here and comes off like a cross between Stevie Ray Vaughn and Jimi Hendrix. Some of the studio songs on the band's debut album are lengthened out here into all out jams which really give Mato and the band a chance to spread their wings. ... Read More:

ONE OF THE BEST PAIRINGS OF BLUES ARTISTS YOU'LL FIND.
PERSONALLY, THE ONSTAGE PATTER BETWEEN THESE TWO
GIANTS IS WHAT MAKES THIS LIVE RECORDING WELL WORTH
THE PRICE OF ADMISSION (YOU COULD TELL THEY WERE HAVING
A BALL AND IT'S INFECTIOUS). THOUGH IT MIGHT BE IMPROVED
WITH REMASTERING, DON'T WAIT, YOU DON'T WANT TO DIE WITHOUT
HEARING THIS PRICELESS RECORDING.

I'm not sure if this is the same performance my husband and I were fortunate enough to be in the audience for. It was for "Blues In The Schools" at County Hall in Charleston, SC. It has to have been a long time ago, because County Hall no longer exists. It was replaced many years ago by an auditorium and now a Performing Arts Center and a Coliseum. We just don't get the same kinds of performers there that we prefer. So I rely on my CDs. I can't remember the date; one of my children was in the High School band and this performance was designed for introducing youngsters to this genre' of music. I think it was great. I don't remember the profanity, so this probably isn't the one, since there were plenty of school kids in the audience. Hard ... Read More:

This album is a literal encyclopedia, and apprenticeship for the blues guitarist! There is no date listed as to when this was recorded, but Robben shows who he is this night and one can only guess what an illustrious carear he has awaiting him. He shows the importance of the minor 6th scale, and his Mike Bloomfield influence shows strongly. Jimmy Witherspoon a man who needs no intruduction, and is missed sadly today by many, displays his usual, dazzling charm, and stage presence.
Even if your not a musician, crank this one up and enjoy! Also recommend: "Jimmy Witherspoon/Robben Ford, Aint Nothin'New About The Blues"

It's amazing some of the idiots that bring down a solid release with one star reviews. The sound quality and performances on this disc are fine.
R.I.P. brother.

BEING THAT I MADE THIS PURCHASE IN FEBRUARY 2007 AND THE CD WAS RELEASED IN 1984 I KNEW I WAS TAKING A CHANCE BASED ON ONE OF SHAQ'S "The King Of The World Blues Reviewer" MAIN CRITERIA: SOUND QUALITY! THIS CD TYPIFIES ONE OF MY WORST FEARS! POOR RECORDING QUALITY. ALBERT COLLINS, IS CERTAINLY ONE OF THE BEST ELECTRIC BLUES GUITARIST'S, BUT THE SOUND QUALITY IS VERY POOR! IN ADDITION, 39 MINUTES IS PRETTY SHORT FOR A LIVE BLUES PERFORMANCE. UNLESS YOU'RE A COLLECTOR, WHO JUST WANTS TO PUT A CHECK MARK ON ALL OF ALBERT'S RECORDINGS, I WOULDN'T RECOMMEND THE PURCHASE.

There ain't nothing like Texas blues. The song goes that if you want to play in Texas, you gotta have a fiddle in the band. That's not true. If you want to play in Texas, you have to play music that people can dance to. Cowboys, oil workers, Latinos or black folks, people in Texas like to dance and they expect performers to play good music that they can dance to.
Louisiana born grammy winner Johnny Clyde Copeland learned this while growing up in Houston, and like many other Texas bluesmen (Mr. Collins, T-Bone, SRV) his music has this influence. In the old videos of his performances people in the crowd can be seen tapping their toes, swaying to the music, clapping hands or outright dancing.

I love the telecaster, and AC really rips it up here. You can just feel AC's emotion with each screaming note. It's nice to hear a recording that isn't so polished, but beautifully spontaneous.

The mailman just rang the doorbell...i was expecting the phone company...and i was so surprised to receive this CD as a gift that i almost broke the cover trying to open it!!! [Yo record companies---
what's with that annoying steel-like tape y'all be putting on top?]
i heard John Hall doing "Sarah Smile" on the Howard Stern show about a month ago and immediately googled the chord changes...completely forgot how good that song sounded, THEN googled up some videos for the song because i wasn't gonna get a Hall & Oates CD for what might prove to be a passing fancy, and it was THEN i discovered Monte Montgomery.
Figures he's from Austin...the last Hendrix hailed from those parts, but unlike SRV Monte takes the guitar in a whole ... Read More:

For a Hopkins fan or a music historian this set is fantastic. Sam Hopkins was a master story-teller - period - and there is a lot of spoken material that inter-weaves his personal history, regional blues history, and general reflections from a different time and a predominantly rural black culture. Having grown up in the rural South as a small boy, I sat at the feet of such story tellers for hours transformed by their spell. That said, if one only wants to listen to Sam Hopkins's music, there are better recordings or at least better quality recordings and one can obtain a suitable collection for less dough. This is a must-have set for a special sub-genre of enthusiasts and for them it is a rare treasure, indeed.
