Live At Carnegie Hall was recorded on October 4, 1984 (one day after Stevie's thirtieth birthday), and is a highlight of Stevie's early days with his band, Double Trouble. There are also guest appearances by John Hammond, Jimmie Vaughan, Dr. John, vocalist Angela Strehli (who sings an enthusiastic lead vocal on C.O.D.), and the Roomful Of Blues horn section. The performance is an intimate, but rousing, blues celebration of Stevie's birthday. At the end of the night, Stevie says, "Thank you very much for making this my best birthday ever...forever!". As a huge chicago blues fan, and a even greater SRV fan, you truely get the best of both worlds. With the hundreds of blues cd, that I own, spanning from leadbelly to keb'mo, this cd holds a special place in my heart. This cd comes out just as SRV'S texas flood is released, and the rest they say is HISTORY. Every track on this cd ROCKS!!! A must for any true blues fan, and in my opinion, One of the top 5 cd for people new to the blues to start with. You will not be dissapointed, you will become an instant lover of the blues!

John lee seemed like he had the blues his hole life.Maybe he did maybe he didn't. He played the hole blues man thing to a T. He seemed like the coolest of all cats when he was up on stage. That's because he was. The people bought it hook line and sinker as they should.I have heard,lived and felt the blues since I was 8 yrs.old. I can totally relate to what he was doing and singing about back then and now.Hookers blues and boogie music is and will always be timeless. That to me is the conection I have with him.Pure blues, no nonsense music that hits you like a ton of bricks. This CD does just that and more.

I've actually owned this CD for a number of years, and it's a favorite I come back to again and again. This is the true sleeper hit for the SRV fan that might be familiar with his studio albums and some videos. This is what you give them when they are ready for the "next step" of delving into the mastery that is Stevie Ray Vaughan. I saw a review that said it was "too raw." Ha ha, doesn't that immediately sell you?! This recording is from Austin in 1980, a full three years before Texas Flood, but you wouldn't know it from how blistering a young Vaughan is. my review is number 23, and so far there has been nothing except 5 star reviews. that's because 5 is the highest score that can be given. virtuoso is a title that is tough to live up to, but i think the title of vituoso came searching for ronnie to give itself to him. san-ho-zay opens it up, and my lord, it will make you listen in disbelief. as much as you think there might be, there is only one guitarist on this cd, and he is blues royalty, the earl of blues. have a friend or two rate it with you so you can give it more than two thumbs up.

Live Alive (1986) was originally released as a two-record set of live performances from 1985-86. There's a lot of music here and it's all great, but get this especially for the back-to-back versions of Texas Flood and Voodoo Chile (Slight Return). In the 6:30 minutes of Texas Flood, I have no doubt that Stevie felt the presence of God. I do just listening to it! Jimi Hendrix is channeled in the unbelievable 9:37 minutes of Voodoo Chile (Slight Return). Just these two songs are worth the price of the CD, but there is plenty more to love here. Fourteen songs that average around 5:00 minutes apiece, including Pride And Joy, Cold Shot, Willie The Wimp, Look At Little Sister, Love Struck Baby, Superstition, and more. Two great sets from the Montreux Jazz Festival fill out this double live album, and it provides a stark contrast of how Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble were received early in their careers and, just a few short years later, with some fame behind their music. I've heard some claim that the booing SRV and the band received during their 1982 set was due more to the house sound being turned up far too high, such that it was impossible to hear Stevie tickling those strings. This may be true...I don't know, as I wasn't there. But by the end of the set he's clearly won over much of the crowd, which forces me to wonder why those fans were able to hear his playing while others were not. After reading some critical reviews of his record I have listened to it again and I have to agree with some of them willy-nilly. This cd contains some disappointments for all true Buddy Guy fans. For instance in the Bobby Blue Bland's "Ain't that Lovin' you", a song which is really out of place here, or in the irregular tune "Let me love you baby". But the rest of record is really great for me. Guy's voice is still powerful in spite of his age (60 years, at once), and he gives excellent renditions of "I've Got My Eyes On You", the Grammy award winner "Damn Right I've Got The Blues", the classical "Sweet black angel", the magnificent slow version of "My time after awhile", and in the Elmore James' single "Talk To Me Baby".
