Live albums. Some artists shine. The live recordings show why they are so popular when they hit the road. Others should run screaming when their record label or their manager suggests a live project! Springsteen is one of the former. He and his band have always had a reputation as a killer live act. Live 1975-1985 shows that their reputation is well deserved.

By the time these cds were released just before Xmas, 1986, Springsteen had made seven records, including one double. This is sixteen sides of music. Each was a classic. My title pretty much sums it up. This is one of the best live recordings of the 70's. If you want hard charging, adrenalin pumping rock and roll in front of a live audience, get this disc.

The CD companion to the DVD of the Madison Square Garden Reunion Tour. My only wish is that they had included Light of Day on the CD. There are plenty of gems for Springsteen fans in this one. Don't take my word---rent the DVD and check it out for yourself. Better yet, take a peek at the set list on this CD. This is my 3rd copy because two others have been scratched up through use.

Like everyone else, Bruce has the "best live show ever". And if this and Live 1975/1985 are any indication, he deserves that reputation. Think "sheer, combustible energy". So if the bombastic arrangements of Born to Run weren't to your tastes (though they certainly are to mine!), this album is for you. For instance, "Thunder Road" becomes a bare-bones piano/harmonica ballad, and it works very well. And how about that energy? Well, Clarence Clemons manages to take the place of the entire horn section on "Tenth Avenue Freeze-Out", which is also given a more prominent guitar part, and "Spirit in the Night" becomes a swinging, nervy dynamo. Yes, it is a shame they found they needed to edit out some material. But if anything, they could of knocked out 'Tonights the night'... never did like that song and I always thought the track was a let down to the album ending. Otherwise a brilliant live compilation and recording. Actually always liked Neil Young but for some reason Live Rust was the only Neil Young album I ever bought, but probably among my 10 favorites and most listened to of all time.

In a nut shell, George Harrison, fresh off his success with "All Things Must Pass" raised his profile even further when he joined with Indian sitar master Ravi Shankar for 2 benefit shows at Madison Square Garden. A little over 10 years after his groundbreaking live album "Live Rust" Young put out this 2 CD live set called "Weld" recorded on the "Ragged Glory" tour. The previous album "Freedom" was a bit of a comeback for Neil. After spending a good part of the 80's experimenting with electronic music, country, rockabilly, blues and just about anything else you could name, his album sales had taken a rather big plunge and radio was all but ignoring him. "Freedom" would feature a song that would bring Young back onto rock radio in a big way with the aptly titled "Rockin In The Free World".
