I love Jeff Healey but this album has a few clunkers. I'd have left off Jambalaya, The Weight, and particularly, Like a Hurricane. The music's fine, but his vocal is flat and lifeless. Healey was a good singer but his voice isn't suited to this song (same with The Weight). Healey's big strength was slow blues, like ZZ Top's Blue Jean Blues, a tune that blew away the Top version. A few more of these on this record would have been really nice. However, as usual his guitar work is stellar, and he will be sorely missed I just wish he'd gone out with more of a statement.

It plays on my car as we drive to Monterey and I think, along with a handful of others this is my favorite album. A handful get that kind of adulation and deep thanks. When I go into times of surgery and pain it helps. As I drive to an extremely difficult job it helps. Why I wonder? Ummm easily the musicians abilities, beyond beautifully played, it's front porch sound. I crave a sweet tea listening, sweaty day in the south, long night of dreaming awake. It grew with me, doesn't propel me back it crawls through my history teasing out rifts, pieces of truths, glimpses of hard and easy days. This music healed a few broken moments. I honestly play it to find a center.

In Eric Burdon's great song Monterey, about the Monterey Pop festival, is this prophetic line about the great one, and it turned out to be so true.

In his brief solo career,(he was once guitar player for the Isley Brothers for a time) Hendrix went from the opening act for an infamous Monkees concert, to one of the most influential musicians of rock music. I can still remember the first time I heard this album as a kid, and still have the songs burnt into my brain after all these years.

The Allman Brothers at Fillmore East

The first time I heard this record back in 1971 when it was first released
my ears were opened. I was into the blues and was blown away with the duel lead guitars that Dickie Betts and Duane Allman played so well.
When I look back and evaluate who the great guitar players in Rock history are I have to include Duanne Allman among the very best.
It is as Eric Clapton once said "We were coming at the same thing from a different direction, I was bending strings and Duanne was playing slide.
Duanne Allman to this day is still possibly the best slide player I have ever heard. Ironically Derek Trucks is probably the best I have heard recently, ironically both from the Allman Brothers.

The name of this album should be "I Am the Greatest!" because that is what this album is for Stevie Ray. Any blues/rock lover will absolutely wear this CD out because it is the vary essence of SRV music. The only CD left to buy is his Live at Austin City Limits, his best performance ever in my opinion!

carlos santana is the king of latin rock and has been for 40 years now and this is his best,leaning heavely on his early years (as it should) you get all his best tracks from black magic woman to the searing souls sacrifice. this is great rock from start to finish,it does have a few great tracks missing like Toussaint L'Overture and Guajira but these can be found on vol 2. so if your looking for some santana this is what your looking for.highly reccomended
