Natalie Cole continues to be one of my favorite artists. She is an amazing talent, with an amazingly clear voice and pitch, and her choice of material has always been impeccable. I was looking forward to this new album of standards, since I was such a fan of her other "Unforgettable' album. This album, as well, is well-put-together, and is pleasing to listen to. But, I have two problems with this album--one is in the engineering, particularly of the tracks with big band backgrounds. If the effect of same is supposed to be that Natalie is singing in front of a big band, it doesn't sound like it is, since, for some reason, the band sounds canned. I realize that the way records are done is where a singer sings her tracks separate from the band, ... Read More:

As I already knew most of the songs I cannot say I was surprised with the content of the CD.
If you are a EW&F fan this is a must in your collection.
The quality of the sound is also very good.
This is the kind of purchase that makes you happy, no matter how much you have paid for it.

Sade and I go a way back. Her music helped me through some rough times fifteen years ago. Times are much better for me now and but I still love her music. She and Thom Yorke are the only artists that get five stars on my iPod. ;-)
Eat your hearts out Ludwig van Beethoven (you old cranky bastard) and Herbert von Karajan. I wish I could tell Sade how much her music meant to me.
Release Date June 11, 1991
The power and love that Natalie has put into this CD has all the earmarks of her debut album of many years ago. Her talent really shines and if her father was still alive he would have to say : well done.

The irruption of the soul in the middle sixties, was the final result of a long wait. Chronological and sociologically it seems to coincide with the tragic end of Martin Luther King, but there's much to say. The black people lacked of a musical flag, a genre that conveyed their special contour. After the first generation of rock in the middle fifties, came the arousing of The Beatles, Elvis Presley, The British Rock, the summer songs and the emerging of a genius of the guitar Jimmy Hendrix. On the other hand, the Latin Jazz (Carl Tjader, Tito Puente, Eddie Palmieri, Dave Valentin) had been growing at exponential rate and the classic Jazz was tied to a far tradition that expressed those memories and unsaid livings, but this generation was over the thirties ... I remember this album when I was 13. I love this album. It's soulful and consistent. This is an honestly erotic and animatedly sweet album, enigmatic unto question itself. Her articulation is clear and patient, toying with space and time. This album seeks to establish a multifaceted artist with real, feeling stories on paper. This album went 2x Platinum. Remember, this was 2000-2001.

Phil Perry is back with some of the most beautiful and smooth sounding soul music of 2008. Many of the compositions are originals with Phil borrowing two compositions from James Taylor (Shower the People) and Burt Bacharach (Walk on By). In my opinion he easily improves both compositions making them his own. The original compositions on this CD are also quite good and memorable. This CD represents a stellar production featuring great instruments where even a Hammond B organ and a harmonica can be heard. Also lending a hand is Kim Waters on sax, and he sounds better than ever although he does sound like Ronnie Laws on some compositions. The recording quality is an absolute standout and credit should be given to the producer and arranger as Phil's voice sounds ... Read More:
