I found this music astounding in a hard to explain way. If you did not pay attention, you may not notice the music because it's not an attention grabber. If you really listen, however, you will hear an incredible quiet beauty in the music. The music conveys an incredible sense of humility and purity. I don't think most people will "get it" - this music is too nuanced. In fact I may listen to hit next week and think, why did I like this CD so much? But those who get it will be ... the best word is appreciative.
In some sense this is perhaps the most difficult thing to do in music. It's much easier to play the loud, fast notes, but to play softly and really express these more nuanced feelings is genius. Very rarely do I hear ... Read More:

This soundtrack is nothing short of a cultural revival. If it took a wonderful movie and its soundtrack to bring this music back to the forefront and garner the attention it received and deserves, so be it.
What better way could there be to reintroduce such wonderful music? At the moment I can't think of any.
Like many have said before there's not a bad track. This soundtrack is full of surprises and rich nuances that make it a joy to listen to over and over again.
Even if you haven't seen the movie this soundtrack is worth getting.

I "discovered" Cherryholmes last Fall after I purchased a banjo and later went to a music store to load up on as much bluegrass as my wallet would allow. To be blunt, their last album, "Black and White", practically knocked me on the floor. Some songs didn't really do it for me (I'm not religious, so I tune out a lot of gospel bluegrass), but when they were on, MAN, they were on ("I'll Never Shed Another Tear")!
Granted, I've only listened to this album a couple of times, but so far I'm generally disappointed. I wish there were more uptempo songs. And to put the ultra-religious number "The King As A Babe Comes Down" second really killed the momentum that was built by the opener, "I Can Only Love You So Much."

This is one of the best, if not the best recorded concert out there. If you can find a SACD or LP copy if this, it is worth buying a record player or SACD player JUST FOR THIS. I'm not even kidding. However, the CD is still awesome. Just make sure if you upload it to your computer, do it lossless. This was recorded using the best mics out there with the audience recored also. Because of this, you hear some crowd noise with an absolutely "you are there" feeling. It's hard to explain, but there is a lot of air in this recording. It's like they recorded the whole atmosphere of the concert hall. I can't recommend this enough.

Carry Me Across the Mountain was such an incredible collection of good music that it seemed impossible to match it. But Dan Tyminski has done it again, although in different style. This time he's working with a band instead of studio musicians. The band is comprised of musicians who are famous on their own. Barry Bales is the driving bass force behind the music of Alison Krauss & Union Station (Dan Tyminski's usual home as well) and has been for years. Adam Steffey, the mandolin player, (formerly of AKUS, the Isaacs, & young supergroup Mountain Heart) is already legendary among young players coming up through the bluegrass ranks for his unbelievable speed and clarity. As usual, in this CD he never overdoes it, though. Ron Stewart is, in my opinion, ... Read More:

While Alison Krause is exploring other music direction her fellow Union Station members are out working. A great solid set from one of the greatest dobro players. Except for two songs this is instrumental so if you like those songs with a great dobro presence this is it. A great backing band to help make this a wonderful set. If you are a Jerry Douglas fan make sure that this one is in your collection!

I've seen The Avett Bros live once and they were awesome. This CD has been spinning in my CD player non-stop for months and I do not get tired of it. Just booked to see them again next month. I haven't been this excited about a group since the DMB. Talented musicians and songwriters and just a load of fun! They are energetic and know how to mix it up.

Alison's perfect and soft voice is exceptional! My favorite song on this album is "When You Say Nothing at All" so there was no hesitation in chosing this song for our wedding. As I walked down the aisle to start our beautiful poolside country wedding, Alison's perfect voice (in surroundsound) floated across the wedding guests, into lush green pasture and seemed to impact even the horses (or maybe the horses were just looking for their dinner). When I reached the rose-adorned wedding arch, I turned to see just about everyone with tears running down their cheeks - Alison's performance of this song really brought out the emotion in everyone. Even the big ol' cowboys were doing their best to choke back their emotions. Followed the perfect ceremony with a husband/wife dance to ... Read More:
